I have an S&W Model 39 that is acting up. It's extracting a fired round but not ejecting it, tying up the gun. Sometimes it feeds the next round; sometimes it doesn't.

It's been to a local smith twice and he's been unable to correct the problem. I really like the gun, find it far more accurate than they were reputed to be and it has a great trigger pull. I'd like to get it fixed.

Can someone recommend a gunsmith who has enough experience with these to get it fixed correctly?

Thanks.

Probably not so easy to find a specialist for the Smith metal framed guns at this point. The factory probably has the most recent large scale experience compared to most, the Performance Center still advertises Third Gen work. Novak's in WV used to do a lot of Smith work, you could ask them though they no longer advertise it.

Honestly, it may just be something a decent gunsmith can sort out, the one you tried already notwithstanding.

It's a -2. Does it matter?

39 and 39-2 use different extractors.

If the extractor looks perfect, has extractor spring been replaced?

Have you replaced the recoil spring? If not, replace it with a #14 one.

It usually functions better with 124 grain ammo.
