Any suggestions for a mid priced SA for a build? Recently ran into some money after a home sale. After a lifetime of hating the 243 Win.....It's become my Plinker and in a Ruger American...a fairly accurate rifle that rides w me often. Had no kills yet, but decent amount of range time.

When Savage flooded the market 10-15 years ago...I bought several. All shot well...they were just "Clunky". The Rugers are more refined, but still a bit Cheap feeling. My end goal is somewhat of a feel thing. When you pick up a rig that is a decent barrel and action in a McMillan....it's just got a different "feel". I am trying to end up there without a $4000 super custom. Sometimes you see factory R700 SA no bottom metal or trigger. Could go that route and end up happy. But wanted to ask if there are different options? I though Stillers were sub $1000 but most custom actions come in at the same price from what I've seen. Right at $1000. Suggestions?

Off topic, but I don't have a SnipersHide log in and couldn't get one last I attempted. That had 100 LA Magnum actions that had been worked over pretty well. Maybe a month down. I was considering grabbing one of those for a 338 Win Mag. And clue if they're sold out? Or how to contact seller direct?

Tikka T3 or T3X and drop it in the McMillan of your choice.
You can add other upgrades like bolt handle, bottom metal, etc.
The factory barrel is good, accuracy is almost guaranteed, and the action is solid.
Or, same with a Sako but your cost would be way more.

Actually, you could even upgrade the feel of the American quite a bit by ordering a Boyds stock to your specs.

the $900 mark puts you into defiance tenacity and bighorn origin range.

id like to have tried a seekins havek. Seems a lot of gun for the money. But no LH.

If you call $2500 mid priced, Alamo is building the Maverick line on the tenacity, ag composite stocks, mueller barrels, TT trigger for around that.

On my second Tikka and I scoped it and shot it a handful of times and pulled the scope and in the corner it sits. I just can't find a love for them. I'm for sure the Odd Ball...

If you are interested in Stiller Actions there is a LH SA Stiller .473" bolt face on gun Broker for $900 BIN price. LH SA Stiller on GB...

I just received an email this week from Kauger Arms indicating they are 2 weeks out on left hand short actions. Also just under $900. Kauger Arms website....

If you are not in a rush, you might be able to find a used custom action for less money. Last year, there was a used LH SA Stiller action that sold for (IIRC) $600 on SH. It didn't last long. But, you have to be looking, and ready to pull the trigger when the deals pop up.

Good luck with your build !

Is the Kauger action available in a LH config?

Snippet from an email I received from Kevin Perry at Kauger Arms on 17 June:

"I just wanted to keep you in the loop of our process for the left hand action. If you are interested in the action only, it should be complete in about 2 weeks."

This was in response to a query I posted to a web form on their internet site a while back.

Was hoping for something between an in the white R700 from Brownells and a Custom action for $100. Not seeing anything $600-$700 range. If I went to $1000....there are a ton of options. Really didn't wanna Ball that much.

There’s many that know a lot more than i do...

I’d think for the $6-700 range you looking at a trued 700.

Unless you can find a deal like the LA that LRI is selling.

Went down the wrong Rabbit Hole....just bought the LRI re worked LH Magnum action listed above. Sounded like good handful of .473" remaining. Had to dig for .545
