Looking at a 223 Encore barrel for varmints,. Any appreciable difference being noted in quality between the original T/C built barrels and those coming out of S&W-T/C currently?

Can't say, but if paying anywhere near full-ticket, I'd pony up a bit more for an aftermarket to get the twist I wanted. MGM offers up to 1-7" IIRC. Plus, you could get one already AI'd to reduce the need to trim, or get a chamber tha would let you shoot 5.56. Options are good.

I understand that S& W bought T/C mainly for their Barrel Making success !!! Hopefully they have taken advantage of that ability & haven't screwed it up !!!

One of the most accurate 223's I ever owned was an Encore Weathershield. What a tackdriver!

My 1-12 twist barrel shoots fine with any bullet up to 65 grains and that is as high as I wanted to go. I mostly shoot 45-55 grain bullets. I have since bought a stainless 223 barrel for my contender and it is just a good a shooter as the Encore barrel was with the same bullets. Both barrels made after S&W acquired TC.

Just picked a S&W barrel chambered in 22lr. Came with a Contender rifle that had a mounted 223 barrel. Both are heavy barrels.
I'll post results when I have time to mount a scope and test it.
