Never had a run in with those, but from seeing other hives being worked, that is one nasty bunch.

I watched part of this last night as well. Was struck by how many basic beekeeping practices that fellow seemed to be screwing up.

I got nervous for him at about 15:45 when bending over looking for the dropped queen.
I thought he was going to show some ass crack.
That would've hurt.

That’s crazy ! I know a guy who keeps what he calls Russian bees that are a little aggressive but nothing like that hive.

Personally - I would have moved the hive away from people and gone ahead and requeened it, for experiment if nothing else. But I've heard that the Africanized bees are very productive. Every time I've had a more aggressive colony, it's also been more productive than the rest.

That was a calm hive relatively. It gets waaaay worse... Calm for Africanized, maybe. Even my crankiest hive was never that aggressive.

For starters, he's pretty ham-fisted in handling the boxes an the frames. And rolling a lot of bees, he's spreading attack pheromones like crazy. His gloves must suck. And I'm drawing a blank on why he doesn't know for sure if the queen is marked. If he did the split right, he should know, and she shouldn't be.
