f-cked my back up on the boat last wens when we hit a big wave wrong, instead of taking it easy I worked and made it worse. spent yesterday laying on the floor while my son and stepson worked, going to eat some pain pills and drive them to the job which is out of town. probably spend the day on the floor again.

Hang tough, dude. I feel your pain. I am repairing foundations again and my old injuries are a brutal , daily reminder! I was kind of hoping to be in management at this stage of the game! smile

Bad news.

Did that in an airboat once.

Boats don't have much of a suspension system. When they come down, it'll jar you hard.

what was bad is when I came down I then went forward knocking the throttles wide open into the next wave.

Getting old sucks. Best we can do is keep fighting the bastard with all we can. I've had issues for years. Yoga helps me tremendously but then I'll stop doing it for 3-4 days and I'm right back where I started. If it's muscle related, find out what kind of therapy you need to do on it and just start making a habit of it.

An Inversion table is your friend. Spend a couple $100 on that and save the money you’ll end up spending on chiropractors, prescriptions, etc. I crushed 3 lumbar vertebrae in 2003. Spent 3 days a week in the Chiro office getting stretched, cracked and put in traction for 6 months. Anytime I feel some tightness I do a couple minutes, 3x a day for a few days and it goes back to normal. Hope you feel better soon

Had a similar thing happen two years back when I weren’t paying attention and went off a curb on a bicycle. Is there any way of giving yourself lower back support while driving? I would put a wadded up shirt behind the small of my back.

There’s not much worse than a man who can’t work who is used to working and wants to work. Sits heavy on his mind.
I hope you make a quick recovery.

I use a Yoga body Yoga Swing. It does the inversion therapy plus 100 or so other strengthening and stretching exercises.

Get to an orthopedic specialist. Get an X-ray, then an MRI if required. I have had neck surgery (spinal fusion) and low back surgery (laminectomy). Waiting for things to get better on their own is not a good plan.

A surgeon's solution will invariably be to cut you. Instead go to a deep tissue massage therapist (shiatsu). A chiropractor might give you immediate, temporary relief.

No quick cure I know of. You might try a heating pad, screech over a Swiss ball, then put an ice pack on it.

I have some horse liniment I use at times. Wash your hands after.

Some people get some good using an inverter table?

stxhunter, Sorry to hear about your back. If you haven’t already......consider an inversion table. The “Teeter” brand May be the best, affordable machine available. If you experience high blood pressure.....maybe not good for you! I abused my back many times over the years, finally ended up getting surgery. Try to be smarter than I was!
Good Luck, memtb

Stxhunter: I feel for you!
Over my 7 decades on earth I have "thrown my back out" 5 or 6 times - it is misery compounded!
I am old enough to remember that when an adult "threw their back out" they were hauled off to the nearest hospital and "put in traction" for a week or two.
I remember visiting my Uncles in the hospital and being amazed by the wires, pulleys and ropes that tugged on them constantly for all their recuperation time.
Eventually the Doctors learned that recuperation times did NOT improve with the use of the medieval "traction devices" being attached to human bodies.
Pills and behavior modifications replaced that regimen.
I wish you a quick and complete recuperation.
Let us know.
