Let it rest (hard to do when you're a hard worker) then stretch it when you get better as a preventative.

My dad had severe back pain at times. My back was good. I was going to take care of my back and never going to deal with that.

15 years ago I shot a big muley and backed the little Tacoma up to it. Trying to pull it up in the bed, its shoulder hung on the tailgate. I decided to pull as hard as I could. Crracck. Had to call for my son to come from 70 miles away. I thought I was paralyzed.

SOB. There went my back. Freaking unreal. I still can't believe I forgot about my back and did that.

Dont EVER say never.

I got over it and did ok till 10 years later and started having problems. Numd in feet and back acting up.

Nurologist got x ray and asked if I had hurt my back within the last couple of years. Crap. 15 yrs ago. Broke vertebra and slipped 3 discs. Then CT and after that MRI.

Got to get back in and get the verdict.

Glad I didnt get that buck mounted.

Please guys, tell your kids to train themselves to think about things like that.

Once broke my arm took a dermal and slit the cast lengthwise so I could take it off and put it back on with an ace bandage so I could fish. my right arm needed it to cast the rod.

I'll kick back on the bean bags next time or just stand.

Took the helm seat out of my boat. Learned that lesson many moons back. Bending your knees are your best back protection on a boat.

Tough, Roger. After four weeks I am about normal after doing something to tweak my lower back. No idea what I did but the following day I volunteered at the food bank lifting and loading boxes of food. That sealed the deal. I just came back from a couple of mile hike and feel pretty good.

I rode the bean bags out 40 miles Sunday. Should have just stood up. When I got up, and took about three steps...I was sick as a dog. Never going to do that again. I’ve fished offshore for a little over 40 years and never got sick, but the last three times have torn me up. Not sure about old age, but I don’t think my balance is as good as it used to be. Might need to take something for it next time.
Standing up is the best bet to deal with those waves that catch you every so often. Let the knees be the shock absorber and keep your eyes pointed in a direction that gives you a little warning. And for me...stay out of the bean bags!
Hope your back is better and you get over it quickly!

I never, ever, ever sit on a boat in any sort of chop.

Unless it's equipped with one of those bad ass suspension seats.

Call Doc, and ask him to write a prescrip for you, for a 5 day steroid pack, where you take 5 pills the first day, and graduate down to 1 pill the last day, 5-4-3-2-1. That’ll knock down the inflammation, and get the pain to go away.

Good chance you bulged a disc, but hopefully didn’t rupture it. Non-knife happy Orthopedics will tell you, if you can walk, you don’t need cutting on.

If you don’t have shooting pain down your leg from the Sciatic nerve right now, you just need to “rest it”, and I mean “rest” it, not rush it back to work., or you’ll be right back down on the floor, and immobile.

Don’t even think about playing golf for a year or two, or you’ll be taking a chance of reinjuring it, from twisting your upper torso in the golf swing, and you’ll go straight to your knees after thinking someone shoved a knife in your back.

Inversion tables do stretch out your spine, and allow the disc to stop pressing on the nerve and allow the disc to relax, and go back to it’s normal position, but if you have high blood pressure, might want to ask Doc about that before trying it, but you can use one in a slight inversion just below level too. You don’t have to go full vertical or 45 degree either for them to work.

Check your PM box.

Hate to hear this, a bad back is the worst. Flexeril, Tramadol and using CBD roll on pain stick works for me. I've been through two back surgeries in the last 35 years and a good high powered muscle relaxer works as good as anything I've tried. Some of the pain killers would make my skin crawl and I'd still be hurting.

Normally I wouldn't but I was tired from not having much sleep the night before plus Wes was running 20-24mph in 4-5 ft seas.... too fast for those conditions then I wasn't paying attention, I was messing with the stereo. Bart's son and everyone else was on the bean bags.

I feel for you. I fish about every day and often have back pain. When it isn't that bad I do stretching each morning and take 4 ibuprophen for a few days to kick the inflammation down. If that doesn't do it time to hit the doctor up for a prednisone prescription which usually takes it down after a day or two. When it goes out.... the floor is my best friend.

Years back I would kinda smirk and think, ‘yeah, right ‘ when people said that they had ‘back trouble ‘,,,,until I hurt my back.

Ain’t funny at all.

Take it easy Roger and don’t rush things.
