My old P64 Model 70. Been pretty steadfast through the years and hasn't ever bobbled. A dose of Corrosion X and the Legend keep the elements at bay.

The 2 failures I have personally witnessed on out of state hunting trips have been bolt actions. My dad’s commercial Mauser broke a firing pin on the last day of a hunt and a friend’s thumb safety Ruger 77 had the magazine spring break turning it into a single shot. Perhaps a couple extra parts wouldn’t be a bad idea with only one firearm and no backup.

The ones that have proven themselves to be trouble free. I hunt an area where my rifles get a lot of dust, knocks and dropped occasionally. Currently that means my custom .280 on a Ruger push feed, tang safety action, MCM stock and Leupold 6X42. Or my M70 Classic CRF Stainless with Leupold FX2, 4X. Or my M1A Squad Scout with Leupold 1.5-4X Scout Scope. On top of that, I have a couple of others with less field time that give my confidence. One is a custom 98 Mauser with a 6X42, FX3. The other is newer Pre-64, M70 with a Lyman peep sight. E

BTW, I have carried a backup rifle on all of rugged desert hunts. Never needed it. E

There's about 40 in the toy box I wouldn't be afraid to take anywhere in the world. If pressed for an answer, it would be my Vierordt double rifle in 8 X 65R Brenneke.

I'll stick with the Sako/Tikka stuff.

In "firing test to failure" done by the US Army and later by allies in NATO the 2 that came out on top were (in order) the 98 Mauser and the SMLE Enfield.

If talking about simplicity, strength and extraction it would be a Farquharson based action. Probably one of the the greatest of hunters, Frederick Selous, loved the reliability of his Gibbs Farquharson in Africa, they don’t come any more rugged. Today you can buy the Ruger No 1 as the most affordable design or buy the Luxus Model 11, Dakota Model 10 or Martini-Hagn. Obviously you have to be comfortable with a single shot.
