No, corruption and mismanagement hurts the Rez the most.

Those guys were fugged over there way before the park closed.

My view of these efforts to close reservations here is dim indeed. No discernible efforts made to stop the residents from coming and going. They seem to flow as they please. Doesn't say much for the health care argument.

Like I said, I wasn't going there anyway. I do take a dim view of being stopped from traveling in my own nation. I suspect others feel same.

The tribal government there is remarkably inept and dirty. Seems every week there's some story about tribal officials being caught embezzling or some other thing normal politicians wouldn't even try. State Senator trying to evade drunk driving because he's on the rez and therefore only tribal cops could bust him, and other whatnot. It's really the worst of small-town, poor rural politics, inbred, nepotistic, insular. Just icky.

Now the rez government is feeling their oats, what with the cancellation of the Solonex leases after 30 some years of anti-development federal staff using the tribe as a convenient foil for "sacred" status for the Lewis and Clark NF.

The most damage to be done here is to the few motels and other touristy things, the big lodge in East Glacier plus all the other businesses in Babb, St Mary, they'll be utterly hammered. Maybe the idea is to bankrupt likely-white owners so the Indians have a chance to buy on the cheap. I understand why they'd want that, but their willingness to do so by any means, any opportunity, whatever approach, just rubs me wrong. If you're going to eff someone, do it directly.

Thing is, the vast majority of the tourists have almost no contact with tribal members. I have never seen an Indian working at any east-side tourism business I've entered, with the two gas stations in Browning (at the ends of the cruise route) being an exception, it seems everyone in town hangs there at least part of the day.

Rez gas stations in Cedarville and outside town here going to lose a lot of money now that Burning Man is shut down and gone "virtual".

Restaurants here in town too, groceries, even the couple of expensive gas stations.

Hopefully The Corona has passed by deer and duck seasons.

I'm a fan of Native Sovereignty. Ever since the fall of the Roman Empire and the takeover of Albania and the Balkan Peninsula, my people have been confined to little old Italy and a few islands in the Med. Not to mention them damn Brits taking a big chunk of Ireland. The Indians here at least got some good hunting lands and while not getting beads anymore, they can put up casinos. Good on them I say. Contracts (Treaties) that last in perpetutuity might be a bad idea in hindsight, but there they be, signed, sealed, delivered and ratified in many cases
