Nice! I had the 10 5/8 but passed it down to my son. I have never seen one but would have a hard time passing it up. Did they have the finger adjustable front sight? I believe so yes. This ain't a 29 either.

I believe the pinned and recessed 629’s in 8 3/8” are a pretty rare bird.

I don't know if there were any other in the "series" other than my gun. Maybe. IIRC my gun was a celebration of Cabela's first fifty years in business. It's basically just a model 629 Mountain Gun.

I believe the pinned and recessed 629’s in 8 3/8” are a pretty rare bird. A friend of mine, now deceased, was a gun dealer over in Missouri back when I was a gun dealer too. He had one and was trying to trade me a 6" model. His was outfitted with the old diamond oversized grips...walnut instead of the then-standard Goncalo Alves. He had another set and wanted to outfit the six-incher with diamond grips too and trade it to me. The old diamond grips really made the 629 in either length, stand out. It made it "pop" as Safariman would say.

I sold my 8 3/8” 29 in the presentation box. I sold every model 29 I ever had and I’ve had a lot of them through the years. Threads like this make me almost wish I’d held onto 1 or 2 but I can’t turn down ridiculously high offers so there’s little chance I’d still have them anyway.
Nice revolvers guys and another great thread TRH. 👍

Yeah, this is the Coke Bottle grip. I've seen the above Smith and Wesson Oversized Target grips with diamonds referred to that way.

Very, very nice! Only N frame I have at the moment is a 4" 28-2 Highway Patrolman. Know it's not the same, but...

I think the Coke Bottle grips are actually a little less hand-filling than the Goncalo Alves Target grips. The older Oversized Target grips pictured, are actual walnut and have the diamond insert...called "coke bottle" grips as a nickname. They are smaller than the newer Goncalo Alves Oversized Target grips. That's what the guy was trying to sell me on.

I believe the pinned and recessed 629’s in 8 3/8” are a pretty rare bird. Yeah, 2nd year production lost 2/3 of the frames due to warpage. They only ended up with a couple thousand 4 and 8 3/8" guns each ,they were the last of the pinned and recessed m629's. Next year brought forth the 629-1 , that engineering change did away with the pinned barrel and recessed chambers. I like it but am honest enough to say I shot my old 29-2 6.5" better and will all ways regret trading it off. MB
