I have a used Dan Wesson 1911 in 10mm that I saw at a local pawn shop. I didnt think too much about it when I was there, but I thought it was larger and bulky compared to a standard 1911 The pawn shop was asking $800 and I wish I had looked at it closer, and gotten a model. Was there a time when Dan Wesson 1911's were not made well? It appears many of their models are well over $1k or even $2k. I understand they are cheaper now that they are owned by CZ. This one I am looking at is definately a little older. I would like to go check it out and maybe pick it up if I can get away from work

Went to look at it today. Once I got it out of the case and away from the other pistols, it is a normal, standard size 1911, not bulky at all. The pistol is the Dan Wesson PM7(Pointman 7) model. It was a decent looking handgun, but actually fairly plain and missing the factory grips. It had two magazines and a set of Pachmyer grips with finger grooves. Also had a target sight for the rear. Front sight blacked out. They were asking $800 (going out of business, no negotiations). Seems like a fair price, but not a screaming deal. I think I will pass.

I have an older DW commander in 10mm that has been outstanding. The fit and finish is nicer than my 1980s colt. It's been very reliable. Not sure on pricing but a quality 1911 at $800 doesn't sound bad.

I would like to do some research and get the one that I really want, unless I get a screaming deal. It did seem like a nice pistol and the fit and finish were good. It was definately an older looking 1911, with the wrap around pachmyer finger groove grips etc. It looks 25 years old. I am pretty sure it would treat me good, and work well for a long time but I want to look at some options and see what all is out there. Its not too hard to spend $2k on a 1911 10mm though, they build some nice ones. Thanks for the information, it is good to know they are a quality piece and worth owning. Maybe I will change my mind over the weekend. Chances are good that this was a $1000 handgun when it was new, at least a decage ago. Prices have gone up for sure.

I've had nothing but great experiences with Dan Wesson 1911s and revolvers, and their value for the $ is not met by many others.
Good luck in your quest.

The prices did not go down when CZ bought them. Like you said, $800 is fair.

The Quality, fit/finish on my Dan Wesson 10mm is outstanding, personally don't think there is a better mass produced 1911.

I have one, flawless fit and finish. I’d like to have a 10mm to go with the 45.

got one of the first 1911 in 45 they put out just to test fire and compare to my colt 1911 not bad had to polish the ramps better than what the factory did to end the feed problem with certain rounds changed the recoil spring to a higher poundage in other words not a bad copy of the 1911 style. But still colt is my goto 1911a1

I have mostly heard good and a pistolero friend of mine carries a 1911 10 mm made by them and got rid of his Colts's. Even the Series 70 Govt. Mod. I foolishly sold him 30 years ago, damn it!
I want one in a long slide 10 mm and I will finally be happy. LOL

The Pointman model is still made today, is a great gun & they generally go for around $1400 or so on the street.
Great pistol, & though I love 1911's & have over a dozen, I do not & would not ant one in 10mm.
But if the gun is in good shape, not altered & you like it, $800 is really a decent deal.
I recently saw one in 45 going for a grand.
