Hello
I have a chance to purchase 2 SSi barrels 223 and 308 and 1 frame/action. All new in Box. Don't know anything about them but he wants 500 for all.
Any thoughts

Never owned one, but here's a review: http://www.woodsnwater.net/articles/2011/5-may-2011/2-fun_shooting

Given that you can pay nearly that much for one of the used Savage 219s in decent condition with less attractive chamberings (.30-30 and .22 Hornet are the closest equivalents in the Savage), I'd say it seems like a reasonable buy.

They were a disaster., having a great deal of accuracy issues. My local gun shop had about a dozen on a fire sale and even then could not get rid of them. I think Mossberg discontinued them within a year or two.

Ibought two when they were closing them out. think Ipaid $169.99 each....it’s been quite awhile but they were cheap.... a heavy barrel 223 and a 308.... like Bob said, not very good. Sold both after not being able to get them to shoot well..... but have seem online reports of good accuracy.....I’d buy a new Henry or save a few more hundred and look for a used Ruger no 1.

Buy a Henry, maybe split the difference and get a .243, for $400. You'll have a solid, current model supported by a good company.

I've seen exactly one SSI in the used rack long after they were discontinued. Was totally underwhelmed, even though once upon a time I thought I wanted one.

I have one in .223 that someone AI'd. It's ok. Mine's 2 inches sometimes less with 55 grain Hornady's soft points. Don't load it too hot and it should shoot ok. At least mine does.

I had one in 30-06 and was not impressed. It looked better than it shot.
