Shillen #3 , Randy chose 22" memory says ROT is 14
I did try the 35 rem in a 303 I have here the 303 is a no go.
What you have done is not nearly as important as how you have done it!!!

UPS man brought my "new" 1954 Savage 99 EG in 35 Rem today. And it is sweet. Hats off to Chris (CTW) and all the folks at Red Oak Gunsmithing. They did a wonderful job. I would highly recommend them for any work you might need done on 99's. I put 5 fat little Remington factory loaded 200 grains in the magazine and they went through the barrel and action as smooth as butter. Going to put a M8-4x33 Leupold on it and get it to the range ASAP. I've got a lot of irons in the fire at work this week and travelling over the holiday weekend but will have to finally figure out how to post pictures in the new format next week. I'll get Joe and/or Gary to coach me up.

After reading through I want to ask is there any reason reboring & rechambering a .300 to .35 won't work?

After reading through I want to ask is there any reason reboring & rechambering a .300 to .35 won't work? Not enough meat in a factory 300 barrel I suppose. I'll let someone with more knowledge on that subject chip in.

After reading through I want to ask is there any reason reboring & rechambering a .300 to .35 won't work? JES offers a 35-300Sav re-chamber I think, But +100 on reccommending CTW and Red Oak for all 99 barrel work!!

Does anybody know where that gun is? Would have been bad ass. Wonder what line of thinking amongst the corporate execs killed that idea? Prolly who would make the ammo? Just another WAG. I'm a Savage 99 WAG expert by the way....

Why stop with .35? A .300 case blown straight out to hold a .40 bullet (like in .400 Whelen) would be an even better dinosaur thumper. Not that there are any T-Rex's around anymore, in fact not much in our environs anymore that can't be dispatched with a good .30 bullet. But, we Americans will always insist that "bigger is better", I guess. (Witness how we finally weaned ourselves of big fat pieces of Detroit iron a generation or two ago, only to have come back with big fat SUV's and pickup trucks in their place. I guess a 200 pound human absolutely needs 4000 pounds of steel and rubber to get through life.)
I think not having .35 Remington in the Savage lineup was one of Savage's biggest mistakes during past generations of the 99. Not because it's a better killer than a .30 but because it was/is a nicely balanced little cartridge that would've offered more variety to the hunters. (And please let's not drive off the road into the weeds with a debate about big blunt slow moving bullets being better brush busters. That old saw has been debunked so many times as to be totally irrelevant, IMO.)

Not better brush busters but big, slower bullets seem to kill as well with less meat loss.
