If you have one or know of a picture of one, let's see'em. Shiny new or well aged, DA or SA. Contemplating a BBQ type gun and would like to see some visual confirmation of my imagination. Please, no cheap New Orleans whorehouse pearl handled ones...

Huntsman, that is OUTSTANDING. I like being able to see the grain in those grips.

These are white linen micarta from Hogue. Not bad looking at all, with it's bit of grain visible. I picked them up from Midway a while back, they were around $100.

Excellent, that's what I'm talkin' about. Please, keep'em coming. Reason for the thread is I'm getting a 1952 vintage 5 screw S&W K-38 refinished in a "Deluxe" blue. Yes, I know, rebluing hurts the collector value but this one would never be a collector item, it's a shooter which is why I got it for a good price. Lots of cosmetic issues but it is definitely a Good Shooter. It has the diamond service stocks but I like a larger grip and with the ridiculous prices folks are asking for even ratty looking original S&W target grips I figured if I have to spend some coin anyway then why not go ahead and splurge a bit on some nice ones. Obviously "nicer" these days still means imitation ivory but I wanted to get an idea of what that might look like. Found these faux ivory ones at a reasonable price and they can be aged as well.

The high quality imitation ivory usually looks about as nice as the real stuff. You have to look close for the grain in order to tell.

I have pretty nice grips on my Ruger 45/45acp. They are Eagle Sambar Stag with very little bark. But I don’t know how to post photos anymore and I’m to tired to figure it out.

Ordered the grips yesterday and chose the aged option plus having a set of S&W medallions installed. Obviously won't have that grained look but the color should be close.

These are white linen micarta from Hogue. Not bad looking at all, with it's bit of grain visible. I picked them up from Midway a while back, they were around $100. Give it 40 years and it may look like this. White Micarta on a three screw, older Blackhawk .45 Colt fitted with a Superblackhawk frame, hammer and trigger, then blued. It has aftermarket steel rear sight. The micarta sorta yellowed over the years, not too unlike real dead elephant. DF

Back when I was into Cowboy Action Shooting, I picked up a pair of Gen 3 Colts in .38 Spec from a SASS member in TX. He had bought them new, had a retired Weatherby engraver living in TX engrave them. I sent them to Nutmeg Sports for real dead elephant grips with deep dish medallions They were shaped like a set of one piece rosewood grips I had previously done with deep dish medallions. Those fit me very well and Nugmeg reproduced that shape.. I think these Colts have the nicest, almost irridescent case colors of about any Gen 3 guns I've seen. Last photo is the rosewood grip I sent to Nugmeg to be duplicated. That set had been sent to Errol Case in MO for carving and checkering. They are on a Gen 3 .357 pair that my son now has. DF

I don't do CAS any more, so they're not likely to get much additional wear. They were pretty classy in double Mernickle holsters. Was always proud to wear them. We were invited to an NRA meeting in Natchitoches, LA, told to go fully CAS outfitted and armed. We did get some looks... And some smiles... Good folks, gun friendly area... DF

The top one looks like it has realistic ivory grain in the material. Is that a different sort of false ivory from the other two? Perhaps a more expensive variety?

All three look great with the faux ivory grips. TRH, The ones on the 8 3/8" are the Kirinite variety. I don't think there's any big difference in price. I agree that they look better but the ones I have on the 4" and the Lew Horton were bought before Kirinite was available through Eagle so I've just left them.

You can soak the faux ivory grips in tea for a few days and it will "age" them to an appropriate color, if you desire. I haven't done it, but I had a friend who did, and they looked awfully good.
You can roll a turd in peanuts, dip it in chocolate, and it still ain't no damn Baby Ruth.

Here's some stag on an N-Frame. Back when I ordered it, I didn't like a lot of rough on my stag, so ordered it with just a little. Today, I prefer the rougher looking stag grips.
