The Supreme Court of Canada has decided it will not hear an appeal by three BC First Nations, who are trying to stop the Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion Project. The Coldwater, Squamish, and Tslei-Waututh nations were challenging a decision by the Federal Court of Appeal last winter, upholding the federal government's second approval of the project. They had argued the government failed to adequately consult with them on the project. Trans Mountain began construction of the pipeline in Kamloops last month.

Good, and thank you for posting. Pipelines are safer than any other way of moving oil, and gas.

And we certainly want to be able to ship oil to China since they are friends of the world. GD

The court gave them the power to be consulted in a meaningful way, which had been done, but not a veto. That's the real meaning of the decision

That's the real meaning of the decision They're being used as useful idiots by the Greenies anyways. The Greenies will try anything to stop oil and gas extraction and transport. Most native bands have governance problems. Just because every clan wasn't consulted doesn't mean the duly elected (right or wrong) council wasn't. It is good to hear this decision.

In this case (as usual with FN) "adequately consult" = pay mo' money.
