I'm pretty sure The Who had their roots in the '60's Mod movement. For Rockers, doing the "ton up" (ie. achieving 100mph) was a thing, that was plenty fast enough when ya got a drum brake up front . One kid in middle school who rode a Mustang at the ripe old age of 13 had a father who was a Nashville PD motorcycle cop, so he got a free pass from the neighborhood patrol cars when he rode it to school.
