I’ve been keeping my eyes open for a Model 70 Stainless Steel Classic in 30-06 for awhile. Finally found one I was willing to add to the stable. Nice shooter to. Need to adjust the trigger but still groups pretty good.
I bought mine in 1998, and it's been a steady, faithful companion. Has killed hogs, deer and antelope. Only wished that I'd bought its cousin at the same time--M70 syn/SS 375 H&H. Same price of around $440 on closeout sale. Still kicking myself. I think they had 270 Win, 30-06, 338 WM and 375 H&H on the shelf.
I’ve had the 338 WM for a long time. Always wanted a 30-06 to match it. This is a low serial number rifle with little wear. Odd, the 338 is 2 oz lighter, even with the 26” barrel. Both are wearing VX-II 2x7’s.

That is odd about the weight difference.

I’ve always wanted a 375 H&H. Not sure I’d ever use it, but I’d still like one. I watched a guy drop a moose with one years ago. Pulled the carpet right out from under him, and big Moose typically don’t do that.

I've done ity many times with both an '06 and .338WM. CNS placement will do it every time.

I picked up the same rifle in 30-06 at a gun show about 10-12 years ago. Based on SN I'm guessing it was made 1999 or 2000. Mine has a 22" barrel, they made them with 22" and 24" barrels depending on which years. Someone had an Edge stock used here in the classifieds and I put it on it. Weight is a little over 7 1/2 lbs as pictured with the Zeiss Conquest 3-9X40. Shoots pretty much everything MOA. I'm guessing someone had worked on the trigger before I got it. Probably the last rifle I'd ever part with. Although I do confess I have a 308 EW set up the same that actually gets used more.

Sweet.
I re-posted your pic in the image tags below.
Thanks. I need to figure out how to do that. The 338 in the back has been all over with me and accounted for a B&C Grizzly in 2008. Has a few Elk and lots of deer to it’s credit. But the 30-06 is more than enough for my hunting anymore.

You had the correct image link, you just needed to have it inside the image tags:

You can either type the image tags as above, or select the image button in the full editor reply screen, and paste the image link into the entry field that the image button pops up which will put it in the image tags for you.

Are you sure that it wasn’t cut down before you acquired it? All the long action non-magnum featherweight/all-terrains had 22 inch barrels, but I’m not aware of any of the long action standard sporters having been made with anything other than the 24 inch barrel.
I have one Classic. Its SS/Syn. Chambered in .375hh. Was in a gun store back in 2003? and they had ordered it in for a guy who failed his NICS check. They kept his deposit and were willing to deal on it. Of course I gladly paid the $450 they wanted because everybody in Michigan needs a .375 to kill 150 pound white tails.
DON’T BE TOO PROUD OF THIS TECHNOLOGICAL TERROR YOU’VE CONSTRUCTED. THE ABILITY TO DESTROY A PLANET IS INSIGNIFICANT NEXT TO THE POWER OF THE FORCE.
Indeed. Would love to have a M70 Classic .30-06 in either blue or stainless. They're about as rare as hen's teeth in left hand. I'm not even sure if any left hands were made stainless.
