I was the winner of an ebay sale of a Weaver VS 1x3 scope. I thought it would be perfect on a 444 Marlin JM 22 inch barrel rifle. Now need base and rings. What is everyone thinking with that?

On this 44...I used Burris Signature Zee rings & Weaver style base

Weaver 1-3x20 is a bargain in the scope world

I had one new on my Custom 20” straight stock and it broke. Weaver gave my crap on return so I chunked it in the trash.

In theory I think it's a great scope. Would have bought a few years ago but back then they listed the eye relief at 3.1" instead of 4" like they eventually changed to. I have a few Weaver V 2.5-7x32's I'm pleased with. I'd like to have that 1-3x on my BLR .358 Win and it would also go fine on my 444's. Wish the V Classics were still being produced.

I have a Win 94 Big Bore Carbine in 444 Marlin. Bought it around 2002, was close to the last year 94s were made in New Haven, Connecticut plant before closing. Wears a Sightron 2.5x20, really nice glass and a perfect fit/use on the 444 Marlin. Scope is on Weaver bases and Leupold QD Detachable Rings.

My 444Marlin wears a Leupold vx11 2-7x33 on Burris base/rings. I bought mine in 2000. It was the last with micro-groove rifling.

Those old micro groove 444s can be tack drivers.
My friend has one and I load for it. Mid power load with 240 Deep Curls. That gun is scary accurate.
Tried XPB Barnes and it shot paper plate patterns.

I have a Redfield 2-7x32 on my "longer range" deer rifle (currently a Ruger 338 Federal) and a Burris straight 4X on my 1894SS.

I have used the Redfield on a couple of other guns but hate it on 2X as it ghosts the front sights. So I carry it on 2.5X and increase power as needed. Unless it is really thick, it spends a lot of time on 4X. I have never felt a need for anything else on the 44 mag.

I went with the Redfield simple because I don't like a bigger scope. To go to a 3-9X I would have to go to a 40mm bell.

If it wasn't for our antler point restriction, I would shoot open sights but I have lost shot opportunities switching from rifle to binoculars to check number of points, and then back to rifle. In PA deer season, they don't stand still long. At least the ones still alive....

I use a 2-7x Leupold on my 45-70, but that 1-3X should be plenty enough scope for hunting. I turn my up to 7X for shooting paper, but will probably never need anything other that 2X for deer hunting.

I just fitted a mint 1999 built Leupold Vari-x11 2-7x33 to my Marlin 1895 45-70. Seems about right to me. Leupold one piece base #49987 and older Burris rings. It's a similar set-up to what I used on my Marlin 444
