Got a little bit of an itch for a Savage made Enfield no 4 MK1. Anyone have one taking up space in the safe?

Plenty of them over Joe and N.Z. just no economical way to get over to you

a nice one https://www.usedguns.com.au/pics/1-155725-2019-08-08_07-16-08-PM.jpg

That's about $2,400.00 USD

Thanks Johno, I think there are plenty over here too. I just saw where an importer got a bunch in. His prices were OK, but condition was lacking. He's asking $495, plus $120 for a hand picked one with good bore and made by Savage. It's just a little itch, so no hurry. I thought I'd rather get one in known condition from someone we know, if I can. Just starting the search.

There's plenty here. I've looked at snagging one, should have 15 years or more ago when they were silly cheap.

I have a Savage/Stevens Enfield project in in the works. You can do as I did. Start with a sporter and build one up. You may end up payning some cash but it does provide you the opportunity to work on the pay as you go plan. My project actually started with a complete receiver with matching numbers (including the magazine) I got off Gun Broker. The other Savage made parts came off eBay and from a few mail order outfits that carry a good stock of Savage Enfield parts. All except for the barrel and that came from Criterion. I even ended up getting a Parker Hale rear sight so, when finished, mine will be the "national match" edition. Just kidding however I do have the sight. There are a lot of hackneyed sporters out there and some are marked "U.S. Property." Best of luck.

I have one but it is not for sale. Yet. It is one of my more accurate Lee/Enfield type rifles so gets some use at the range. I haven't blooded it yet though it gets only very rare trips to the field. It does get taken to the cabin in case of a bear problem but that is an unlikely occurance.

If you can, find one with the ladder rear sight as it will shoot to the sight at 100 yards when at minimum elevation with factory and handloaded 174/180 gr bullets. That beats the peep sights which shoot several inches high for me. The same can be said for the Long Branch models and I'm sure any other model with the ladder sights.

Thanks guys. I’ll keep looking. Not looking real hard, but my eyes are open.
