Been a few years since I had a rifle assembled. Snagged one of those LRI worked R700 Lefty actions. Already have a few 338 WM but want the "perfect" one for me. Was hoping bugholes would have a Bartlein 3B in decent twist but I;ll have to keep searching.

Any recommendations for a McMillan? I've had Supergrades, Classics and the wide fore end version of the Sako Hunter stock...which is now the??? The stock that most caught my attention was the McMillan Hunter, with what should be a much more thin fore end? The other made a #4 barrel look like a pencil.

I am a stickler for a high comb to provide a good cheek weld with a 44-50mm scope. McM lists MOST of the stock specs, but not all.

Will lastly state that the aforementioned Sako Hunter pattern houses a 300 RUM> And that was the most brutal recoil I've ever experienced. Not sure if it was stock ergos or rapid recoil impulse. Zero Fun. Instant headaches.

Yeah as I was reading I was thinking that for a .338 WM I don’t know if I would choose that McMillan (Sako) Hunter. That stock does not work well for me in the recoil department. Plus that forend is relatively narrow so you need to be careful with shank length, and with contours at the edge of design parameters. Not sure exactly how a 3B is going to drop in there but it’s right there.

Go Classic. It’s the one. 🙂

I'd order a Classic, all day, every day for that build.

Any reason not to get a Manners? I think their EH3 configuration would be a slam dunk in that set up with a 3b or 4 contour

I like the McM Hunter style, but I have a narrow face and high cheekbones, so the high comb works better for me than most other designs. That said, the rifle with the most recoil that I have a Hunter style stock on is either a 7mm RM or a 338-06, so not much chance of getting my cheek slapped like the recoil of a 338 WM might produce.

Never ordered a Manner before. A McWalnut is what I was after but only for looks. Can see I am struggling to make a selection. Think the Classic McM would be down on the bottom of my list of patterns. Even in the Long Range Steel/PRS circles I've hung on the fringes of....never handled a Manners I don't think. They were around, but I never snagged one or shot one.
