My friend, who is working in northern British Columbia with limited internet service has decided he wants a 458 rifle, preferably a Lott. Unfortunately he is left handed.

He has the following lefthandec rifles: a Sako 85 in 300WM, a CZ 550 in 375H&H and was hoping he could locate a CZ in 458. I can't seem to confirm if CZ ever made a left handed 458.

Anyone know of a lefthanded 458 Lott?

Or is he looking at a side by side?

My sympathies to lefties. The selection sucks.

Zastava makes or did make a Lefty 458 Win. I owned one for a bit then sold it as I never used it.

Any LH 458 Lott will be a custom job.

Rebarrel a CZ 375 to 458 Lott

I got banned on another web site for a debate that happened on this site. That's a first

I have a left hand 458 Lott in a Win 70. It is CRF is a rebarreled 375 H&H. Less than a box of shells through it. Had it built for a buffalo hunt but ending up using my 375. Let me know if interested. I can take pics or answer any questions.

Thanks,

Dean

CZ never made the LH CZ550 magnum in anything other than 375 H&H.

For a 458WM or Lott he will likely have to go custom built.

Go with kudu3's offer as anything other than the Zastava could be difficult to find. A Model 70 or CZ 375 could be re-bored to the lott and the size and weight of both of those rifles is better suited to a 45 than a 375.

Kudu3’s offer is the most convenient. Otherwise, find a Montana action and complete. Dakota 76 or 97 used rifle. If not in the right caliber, rebarrel. The expensive route: Granite Mountain Arms From Phoenix Az. or FZH From Germany.
Finding a used Winchester model 70 Classic in the non current fad caliber of 7mm STW would be an easy rebarrel.
Scour the net gun sights and Auction houses. Lastly, lots of patience, meaning a couple of years. Kudu3’s offer is worthy of serious consideration.

Your let handed friend can buy a Winchester 1886 .45-90 (.458 2.4 ) and hand load express loads or shoot any 45-70 ammo in it. Mine kills cape buff and elephant , so he should be able to scrape by without a Lott . If he does not hand load, Alaska Bullet Works should be able to help him. Their 450 grain Kodiak FMJ at 2150 fps.shoots through all but ele. it just knocks them to their knees.

I would keep an eye out on the gun websites. Many have a LH section. I've seen some screaming deals on LH safari rifles. For some reason, LH rifles seem to sell at a considerable discount to RH models.

Rebarrel or bore (JES) his 375. Take the offer from Kudu. New Remington LA RUM LH action and build from scratch?

That may be the order of least investment too.

I think Kudu's rifle is great, however, for whatever reason, he isn't interested at this time.

He is in love with his CZ 375 and wants to keep it.

If we can't find a left handed CZ 550 375 to rebarrel, he is talking about saving his shekels and springing for a double like a Merkel or similar. He seems to want a 450NE, but Boddington tells me that 470NE is the better chambering to get as the ammo is much more common.

Buy another CZ in 375 and molest that one then?
It appears money is not the object, from his taste.

He's looking at that. With our pathetic dollar, it is wicked expensive.

I have a left-handed 458 Lott, but like others have mentioned, it's a custom job. It's an older Rem700 458WM that had a chamber reamed to Lott. It's an okay route to go if he wants the Lott rather than that winmag.

Fair warning though, the Lott is a devil to shoot, even with a merc recoil cylinder and a comfy soft decelerator pad.

Not a huge problem.

You can buy any left handed 300 Win Mag and simply re-barrel it. In some cases you'll want to reinforce the stock with cross bolts too, but it's easy quick and the cost of a re-barrel is not very high. If the barrel you remove is in good shape you can sell it on line, and recoup some of the cost of the conversion.

I have done 5 that way, and it was not ever a big job to set the left handed customers up with a guns they were happy with.
