The photo is from the beginning of the month. The location is coastal Mississippi. He's been regular ever since his antlers began sprouting.

Paul, if "beginning of the month" is July, the answer is "not much" this year.

He does have pretty good bases. He might be something to watch. If he shows up again, post some updated pictures. It might be interesting to see how he progresses.

He's not gonna be much but that's all relative. His beams are starting up, not out. Bad first sign.

Im thinking Steak & Buger! Since I only hunt for meat these days, that's the way I see it too.

Paul, if "beginning of the month" is July, the answer is "not much" this year. I don't know a whole lot about the antler growth process. From what I have read and observed, we run a little later down here. I have seen full body shots. He's young. Very tall and lanky. Allowing for a little more girth to grow into the bases, they will be decent by coastal standards given what I believe is his age is. I think he is under two. I'll be on vacation for a while. If I get any shots on my cell cam, I'll post them. Otherwise, it won't be until I come back from that I see what's on the other cameras.

when is the main week of the whitetail rutt down there ? is it December or ? another thing if he is from a fawn doe when he was born his catch up time for horn and size growth won`t be tell around 3 1/2 years most of the time.this buck does have nice base size ,do you put horn growth minerals out ? that does help some too.

Our rut peaks in early-mid January. I have a small field of Iron clay peas planted. They keep it mowed down. I also have some corn feeders. Other than that, I am not enhancing their diet.

I should note that this is just a 10 acre parcel. It is situated between a small rural subdivision and some pretty big woods that see moderate hunting pressure. I would assume most hunters aren't going to let a deer grow up. That's fairly typical here.

At the risk of coming off as antagonistic - where are ya fellas coming up with "good bases"? The bases aren't even the size of his eyes, and he's in velvet.

Late to the game I was going to say sausage
I never do the "this one should make book in XXX years " or " age this one " You can't count on a free ranging low fence deer to be around year after year like a pet dog or something. Just my uneducated opinion based on hunting for a good while, but I'd say 50/50 chance ideally. There's natural predation, fighting other deer, parasites, diseases, inclement weather, road kill, poaching, road hunting, vandals shooting JFTHOI, feral dog packs, etc. About the only sure way to say that so-and-so deer will be there to see is to high fence a few sections and feed and medicate your deer like feed lot cattle I don't have any problem with those that do

give Paul a break ,maybe there`s still a little hope for the horns to get bigger someday ," yes i know horns on a deer are really called antlers greez " . another thing once in a while a smart deer gets old and does have big horns/antlers it does happen in the wild too, some of us let them grow.

Interesting that he branched at all, but given that he has brow tines he might be more than 18 months old. Seven deer in the yard this morning and no velvet on the buck up here.

If you hunt with your kids. You should not have to hunt for your kids.
