Renner is now offering a stripped down No.1 for the .30-30 class of cartridges and weighing an advertised 5.6 lb. I would not have guessed one could work it down to that. He dispenses with the forend hangar and apparently the ejector mechanism and installs a pencil barrel sans quarter rib. It's finished by whittling down the stock quite a bit. It's not obvious how he mounted that tang sight. Overall, I like it, but the stock still has too little drop for the way I hold a rifle.

The sight is mounted to the safety. I know, I know, but think about the Rigby style peep sights mounted to a bolt action striker, they seem to work okay.
Can't imagine how delicate and lively that must feel. He did up a No. 1A .250 Savage as an "Ultra-Slender" and it weighs 6 lbs 14 oz but handles like a Winchester 94.
Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery. Hit the target, all else is twaddle!

I have a rolling block with a 30" pencil barrel that weighs that same 6 lb 14 oz and it's a delight to handle--although that muzzle can run into things you weren't expecting it to. It doesn't say how long is his standard barrel, but it looks like 24". I'll have to measure my receiver and scale up from his photo.
I guessed he might have drilled it into the safety. Mine wiggles just a bit, but perhaps he can tighten that up; maybe he makes a new one. Actually, a safety on a single shot isn't very important to me.
It's an interesting set of modifications. I'd been thinking of trading my No.1 off, but maybe I shouldn't be too hasty. Still, I like more drop in a stock than a No.1 offers.
