I guess the flag change has just as much to do with money than it does politics.

Change your flag or we won't spend money in your state sort of thing?

What state couldn't use some money?

I dont like being told what to do....and I suspect that most Mississippi folks dont either.

I feel like I would like to have a Mississippi state flag....and display it.

Never had any Confederate battle flags around at all......ever. Nothing against it....just never had one.

This idea of changing a flag that is over 100 years old is just too fugging much.

Would this idea be reasonable?

Flying a Mississippi Flag at my house?

It would still ‘make’ it would just throw the tassels sooner and the ears would be smaller or partially filled.

Not a total loss

Mississippi resident here. We voted to keep flag back in 2001. Chicken$hit Legislature decided to make the decision this time themselves. Wouldn’t let us vote on it again. Knew we’d keep it. Of course, they know what’s in our best interest.

Change the name of New York, named after the Duke of York (who later became King James II). It would seem New York is far more racist than the Mississippi flag.

After 1660, following the English Civil Wars and the brief republic under Oliver Cromwell, the reinstated monarchy started the large-scale involvement of the English in the slave trade. King Charles II and his brother James, Duke of York, helped establish a company that would control all English business in African slave trading. By 1672 it was called the Royal African Company (RAC) and its symbol was an elephant with a castle on its back

Mississippi politicians as a rule are pretty spineless. While it's considered a conservative state our senators and republican representatives aren't very conservative and most will pee down their leg whenever someone screams racism. One representative, Bennie Thompson, is a democrat from the Delta and is a screaming leftist crook.

It disgusts me but it doesn't surprise me at all that they caved.

I hated to hear this, it means Antifa and the Communists backing BLM won. Throw a riot, break stuff up, and we cave mad

The only fair and honorable way woulda been to put it to another state-wide vote.

Not sure.

They won’t put it to a vote.

They don’t want all the rednecks voting this Nov.

Bob, I really hate to ask, but I thought that was Sherman?? With the blessing of all that is.
Or, the Southner's themselves, not wanting leave anything of value to the Yankees?

As to the flag, I'll say go for it Big Jim.

Legislature votes.

People create a ballot measure, get signatures, gets on the ballot, overturn the legislature.

No, it was Grant and the Army of Tennessee.
