What material do you want them made of? I know someone who makes aluminum ones fairly cheap.
Thanks, Dinny

Steel , gunsmith warned against shooting rifles without thread protectors - said the muzzle could ''bell out'' - expand . So aluminum might not be strong enough .
Carbon steel .

I use Hughes Precision. They do a good job and are reasonable.

Carbon steel . I'll raise the BS flag on that one! The remington model sevens [308&260] muzzle sure looks thin to me , the Gunsmith has 30+ years experience and has never steered me wrong . I'll take his word and not shoot with thread protectors - better safe than sorry . OSU Sig , Thanks I'll look them up !

Belling only occurs when you remove too much metal from the barrel when threading it At the muzzle end ... **(IF IT IS A BUTTON RIFLED BARREL)...
So it’s belled out no matter what you do a thread protector won’t help it.
Midway USA usually has a bunch of thread protectors as well.

Just curious why can’t the gunsmith who’s recommending you use a thread protector make them?

Carbon steel . I'll raise the BS flag on that one! That muzzle steel would have to be REAL thin, and pressure at the muzzle is down from chamber pressure. I don't see that happening. DF

Thanks for the help guys - got a few links on where to get them .. 805 , Gunsmith was doing a rush job on the threading before he went out of town for vacation with family . He had some there for $30 but told me they could be bought online for half that amount , said he had to make money off them for stocking all the different sizes . $75 sounded better than $150 - like getting 2 1/2 protectors for free .

I don't trust any gunsmiths who do rush jobs. I once had "an experienced gunsmith" crown my barrel with lapping compound, a carriage bolt, and cordless drill. Fooled me once...
Thanks, Dinny

Down Range Products makes a quality product and ships free. They are all made in the USA. I use EGW as mentioned above and quality seems comparable. Stick with steel if possible, aluminum and steel do not mix together well as dissimilar metals. A touch of quality anti-seize products will help protect from threads galling. www.downrangeproductsco.com

They're utilitarian items in my eye. Zero problems or concerns and fast shipping. Sells via Ebay too. Has a couple hundred offerings iirc. These arrived today. $10 and $15. Fare enough. Cheers.
