A Chicago man who pulled out a gun during a murder victim’s burial and shot into the grave in front of a crowd of mourners has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison.


“You ain’t [expletive],” Elston Stevenson, 57, said before he fired a single bullet, according to the Justice Department (DOJ). “You got what you deserved.”

It happened at the Evergreen Cemetery in Evergreen Park on Nov. 22, 2017, authorities said. Stevenson fled the funeral, waving his gun at the mourners as he ran. Police arrested him near the cemetery gate.

“When a felon brings a loaded gun to a populated area and uses the gun to threaten and endanger strangers, this conduct will not be tolerated,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Cornelius Vandenberg argued in the government’s sentencing memorandum.

Meanwhile, 254 people who were alive when they were shot have died so far this year in Chicago. Wonder how many arrests have been made in those cases? But by golly, they nabbed the dude who shot the dead guy in his grave and threw the book at him. It would be funny if it weren't so tragic.

Doesn't matter. All that matters are the 5 unarmed black criminals that were killed by white police. Killing in crime is a jungle right. If you don't agree, you're racist.

Went to Chicago a few years ago to take the wife to see her son. I didn't forget a thing when I left.

Schidtcago- - - - -things haven't changed much since Al Capone and his buddies were playing their games. The cops were corrupt and inefficient back then, just like today. The politicians were worse than the cops. Back then the cause of the violence was booze, loan sharking, gambling, and hookers. Now it's drugs and the gangs that distribute them. Same crap, different day!

Bunch of presumably pissed-off eyewitnesses at the funeral, plus cops apparently already on scene at the cemetery gates (???), equals a slam dunk prosecution.

I am just guessing but I assume that one of the problems with homicide prosecutions in Chicago, aside from the obvious political pandering and racebaiting by law enforcment, judges and prosecutors, is the tribal / herd mentality that makes eyewitnesses clam up and refuse to give information to investigators.

Chicago hasn't even scratched the icing off yet.

All undoubtedly true. A slam dunk arrest and prosecution (for a "crime" that actually harmed exactly no one). Actual killings are much harder to prosecute for the reasons you mention.

To clarify, not saying the guy was right to do what he did, but simply that it is ironic that this victimless crime would clog up the court and prison systems while homicides, rioting, and looting continue largely unabated.
