Got a buddy who's kid is 15 or 16. The kid reffed soccer games after school for 3 weeks at about $25 a crack. Then COVID hit and shut everything down. The kid's momma files for unenjoyment for him. Kid gets $4800 in arrears plus the 6 hundo a week. You can't make this stuff up.
17 year old daughter is a waitress, $3.05/hr+tips.
$4800 reported income last year.
When they closed us down, she didn't want unemployment.
Said that as a kid she didn't need it, and it felt "wrong".
I watched how many people were milking it,how we were working to
earn what min wage folks were getting paid to not work. And I made her apply.
She works and saves. Trying to have money for college, and this was keeping
her from earning.
In 5 weeks she got around $3200. Ridicules considering her yearly,
But she has it ear marked for schooling. And I'm glad she did.
Back to work now, business is horrible, and many people aren't tipping.
Where she used to get $75-100 a night, now it's $30-40.
The "windfall" will probably work out to average over the year.
Personally, I have been partially furloughed every other week for over a month.
Tomorrow I will do most of the next two weeks worth of work.
One job next week that two of us will do in a day.
I'm glad for the extra money, but don't "need" it.
But, losing a third of your cash, while also not paying your
insurance or adding to retirement gets old fast.
Honestly, days off with good money is nice.
But I would prefer to have enough work to keep everyone busy.
This will soon lead to less senior guys losing their job.
