I have inherited an old Leupold scope. I was hoping you all might be
able to help me with some questions. It is a fixed power 7.5X, with AO adjustment.
The OD of the objective end is about 1 13/16", a nd the scope is 12 5/8" long.
Seems a bit large and high powered for a hunting scope, and yet pretty
low powered for a target scope.Any intel would be appreciated: what it may
have been designed for and approximately when it was made?
Unfortunately the previous owner is not around to answer any
questions. Thanks for any help.

They were excellent on 222's and similar. Honestly, I really like that 7.5X Leupold. Pretty darned good scope for a little varminter or even a deer rig in open country.

beretzs hit it. I hope, it is in good shape. Obviously Leupold will take care of you - were you to send it in - but not having anything close in their lineup anymore, they might be at a loss to replace it, if not servicable anymore. Just resently, I send in an ages old M8 3x with German # 1 reticle. It had a blemish on the objective lens inside. It could not be serviced anymore and was replaced with a Ultralight FXII 2,5x20. While I am happy with this swap, this remains something to keep in mind.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the info. The open country deer application sounds interesting, It's in great shape. A couple of small scratches from the mounting rings and a little dust on the lens. And I'm glad to hear it's not a rimfire scope. Curious, any guess as to what time period they were made?

What is the serial number on the scope. It is the only way to determine age.

Never had a "Triple Duce". Always wanted one, just because of the cool moniker... It might work well on my old 225Win.

It’d be perfect. Classic set up.

Southtexas: In the past I have owned and used three of the 7.5 power Leupold scopes.
I liked them and used them for years Rock Chuck and Prairie Dog Hunting.
Alas when the wonderful Leupold 6.5x20 power variables came along I traded off most all of my 7.5, 8, 10, 12, and 16 power fixed power Leupolds for that companies big variables.
I have just 4 of the fixed 12 power Leupolds and 2 of the fixed 8 power Leupolds left.
One of my 8 power Leupolds is on a Browning (Sako action) Rifle in 222 Remington Magnum and the other 8 power Leupold is on a Sako L-46 heavy barrel Varmint model in 222 Remington!
These are great scopes but the current style variables can do everything the fixed powers can do - and more!
Enjoy your classic and classy old Leupold.

Aside from a few 8x56 "night scopes", fixed power hunting scopes in that range are pretty scarce IME. Used to have a Lyman 8 on a Vixen .223 and liked it a lot. I see those Leupolds on GB and they come pretty dear.

Those are great old scopes.

Find the appropriate rifle and chambering.

I picked up a Karl Kaps scope 8x a few years back... same "vintage" kinda thing... it is amazing... and was super inexpensive.

Thanks, Gentlemen, for your input. I'm wavering between putting it on an old M70 225Win or on a 1968 M700 in 270 that my dad gave to my BIL. Or maybe I should sell it as I have more scopes than places to put them right now...decisions, decisions!

Both would be excellent options.
