I'm sure there are some members here from the middle of The Land of 10.000 Lakes.

Care to share what you do, and don't like about that part of the state?

We drive mostly on highway 71, on our way through. The timber gets thicker as we travel north of course, and the lakes are closer together as well.

I got drafted outta the courthouse in Olivia in 1969.
Went to high school 5 miles east of there—all corn and bean country with a few sugar beets.

Used to pass by Olivia every year on our way to Potato Lake near Park Rapids.

To bastardize a title from Bobby Zimmerman: "Highway 71 Revisited".

“I got to Remer before she got to Aitkin.“. That’s what my dad always used to say.

I always heard it as "If you want to get to Emily, you're going to get to Aikin, before you get to Remer"

Funny Minnesota humor right there, you betcha!

The southern part of Minnesota has great farm land, as I travel north, it becomes more timber.

Some of the center has lakes, fish, and a lot of game habitat. The central area might be a good place to both farm, fish, and hunt?

A road trip over there was always visually rewarding for the Swedish descended blond and blue young ladies. One state over shouldn’t make that much difference, but it does. Wi. has more lakes than MN., but your women are cuter.

In summer, if I had ten dollars for every Chevy pickup pulling a Lund boat, it would pay for our trip.

You gotta watch out for Iowa plates. Those folks don't know how to drive.

Wabigoon, check out the Rush Lake chain and the Grumpy Minnow restaurant that is located on West Rush. I haven't fished the lake, but I can tell you the restaurant serves up some of the best food I've ever had. You can tie up your boat right at the restaurant docks out front or just drive to the restaurant. It's a very pretty area, a mix of farms, woods and lakes - perfect deer habitat imho.
