Okay, I've got two donors.

Number 1, is a Short Action WSM Action.
Number 2 is a Long Action.

OPTION #1:

I am thinking of going with the 6.5 PRC on the Short Mag Action.
And going with the 280 Remington on the Long Action.

OPTION #2:

Then I got to thinking of "possibly" running a 7mm-WSM on the Short Mag Action.
And "possibly" the 6.5-06 on the Long Action.

I'm not sure how long the PRC brass availability is going to be around for, could be here for a long time. If it does fade, I could always have the PRC re-cut to WSM in the furtue (since that seems well established).

WHICH of those two options would YOU run with...and WHY.?

Given you're in AK, how about an 8 or 9" .270 WSM on the short one, and a 9.3x62 on the long one?

A 7mm WSM would be good too, but the .270 seems to be a bit more popular, which translates into factory ammo and brass.

The 9.3 has a good rep for thump with 5 rounds on tap.

Ok, 6.5 prc and a whelen. No need to explain, it's really that easy. Lots a bases covered there.

Both options you mentioned are way to close imo

Turn the short action into a fast twist 25 wsm and kick it down the road to pete53. The 280 is the keeper idea of the two.

How about in the long action a .25/06 and the short action .300 WSM.

This certainly all about want, not need. grin

So go with what tickles your fancy.

My personal intrigue has always been a 270 WSM and 6.5-06. But I own enough 270's that doing either is simply a looney being a looney.

I have two-.270 Winchesters and one-.270 Wby and one-.270 Ingwe. You can never have too many .270's IMO.

On the left is the .270 Win and on the right is the .270 Ingwe.

I like the Classic action as the basis for a build. I have used a couple and they both turned out exceeding my expectations. Good luck whatever caliber(s) you choose

If you are going to do a .280, make it a .280AI.
Pair with the 6.5 PRC.

Give both long barrels and fast twists, and good optics so you can reach out.

T,

I've thought about the A.I. and would prefer it.
just not sure, yet, how it will feed in the Winchester CRF... Kimber seems to have success..so maybe.

I have a .250AI on a compact Classic. No feeding issues at all. The long action should do well.

CRF....Controlled round feeding, is the gold standard for bolt action feeding. It will feed just fine.

The 280AI is one of the favorites on the Nosler Forum. I used to hang out there a good bit, but it's kind of boring compared to this place.

If you need any Quickload data for either one, the 280AI or 6.5PRC let me know and I'll run it for you.

But just for grins, and because I can:

26" tube on the PRC and the 142gr Nosler LRAB could be fun:
