Many members here on the forum have followed the family hunting and fishing adventures as our kids have been growing up. Several years ago I gave Layne a fly tying vise that he has used to tie his own trout flies and all of our crappie jigs. The jigs work very well as you can see in the pictures. Having honed his skills, he is enjoying more time at the tying bench and would like to make his "Layne's Lures" crappie jigs available to members here on the forum. Below are pictures of 1/8 oz. jigs that are available mix & match, first-come/first-served. Colors can be tied on either the 1/8 oz. white/black or orange heads or the 1/32 oz. black heads (last picture). All prices are $4/6 jigs + shipping. What size hooks on the 1/32 jigs?

They are either a #4 or #6, but I will check with Layne to confirm.

Thanks for the compliment! I will pass it along to Layne. He has worked hard to get to the point where he is tying high-quality lures and feels good about offering them to others. With the abrupt change to finish out this past school year and the uncertainties in the year ahead this has provided him with something positive that he can focus on. Doesn't hurt my feelings when he then says, "Dad, I have some new colors tied up...let's go test them." Tough job, but someone has to do it. Pictures are from Kanopolis Reservoir this spring. We caught more big crappie there this year than I have ever caught anywhere. Grace gets in on the field-testing sometimes, too...

The jig heads we have right now are size #6, but I need to get more ordered and will get some #4's so we have some of both available. Thanks for asking.

How else could they be tied.. if not by hand...?

There are lots of soft body plastic options for jigs available and that is what I am making the distinction to in comparison. I have used soft body jigs and they will catch fish, but I have always preferred the extra action you get with marabou, especially when vertical jigging or fishing slow under a bobber.
