After my thread last week or so ago about polishing the 81 yr old 2 stage trigger in my 98, and contemplating stuff.

Hearing what others had to say on that thread about triggers.
And wanting a trigger similar to my mod 70 ot6,s trigger in the back of my mind for awhile since getting the 98.
Said fugg it this morning, called a Timney tech to pick their brain to basically confirm what I was already thinking.
Biggest question was about adjusting the pull/weight screw and if by doing so if it would affect the crispness of the factory setting.
Answer nope ...
They break like glass and dont go below 1.5 pds.
Sear engagement is set by them and colors applied to the screw to identify worker who did the adjustment.
Told em I aint messing with the sear screw and had no need too.

Thank you for ansewring my questions
Bye....

GTG.....

Place in a order to midsouth shooters supply for local pickup
3pd one preset from Timney
And a simple trigger pull gauge

30 mins later items in hand and at home.

Years ago, I built a rifle for my son, using a DOU 44 action and a surplus barrel in 7X57. I put a Timney in it, and had to cut out the triggerguard in order for it to fit. Shoots pretty good for a beginners project.

Simple install of the trigger.
Original pin
Set screw to tension it to receiver to stop wobble.
They dont include a allen wrench or I got fugged outta one
LOL!!!
Got plenty of em anyways..

3pd trigger set by timney.
Confirm accuracy of the gauge numerous times also.
Need ta set gauge finger on trigger in same exact place and finger depth each time for repeatabilty.
Also keep eye on slide scale when pulling and instantly stop when the trigger goes off.
Use same pull each time
If ya dont get a feel for that muscle eye click feel you will get bounce or over pull readings I found out.
Took a little while to get it down using the gauge.
But after I got a feel for it.
The trigger was dead on at 3pds and the gauge was accurate.
With multiple readings dead on at 3 or within 1 mark of either side of it.

Dremel ball gouging out some wood was the biggest thing I had to do for it to fit in.
Trail and error about 4 or 5 times.

I've spent most my life disliking Mausers but I find myself wanting a nice Nazi version.

I've no doubt that Timney was worth every penny.

Set at just a hair above 1.5pds.
Confirmed numerous times.
Dont worry guys.....
Not my 1st Rodeo.

I dont have sausage fingers that are uncontrollable, and have used light crisp triggers on many wpns and hunting rifles.
LOL!!!

Timney triggers are a great fix for a Mauser action rifle. An even better fix in my opinion is a Dayton Traister trigger...... If you find one these days on a dealer shelf, buy it. If not, you can order one here.

Dremel balling out wood to fit was the most "challenging " aspect of it.
Taping up the finish to protect it multiple times was done between each trail and era session.
This was the final result after blowing and tooth and paint brushing out the wood dust.

Gonna hit the freshly exposed wood with some tru oil and a small brush later, just wanted to get the install done today.

I'd bed it.

It is.
You just cant see alot of it
Due to the angle of the pic and follower.
Skim bedded in the receiver areas in places along the receiver sides
Front recoil lug and 1st inch of the barrel and chamber are also.
Free floated barrel after that.

The top of the bottom metal receiver bolt towers into the bottom of the receiver surface got shaved to recess the floor plate flush with the wood.
Reason why I cant buy a hinged floor plate assembly for it.
The geometry has been altered for the flush recessed floor plate appearance.
Floor plates on unaltered ones sit above the surface
This one is contoured in flush with the wood .

Metal on metal dead contact and 0 action screw turns after contact is made.
You can see the dark ring of the bottom metal tower in that rear action screw hole
A corresponding one from the bottom of the receiver sits tight on top of that.
Basically kinda a pillar bedded concept back in the day I think all in conjunction with the glass bedding.
Thats why the rear receiver lug aint bedded.
But everywhere else in the bedding and the shaved towers hold it all solid.
Someone else did all that back in the day at sako or after someone got it back to the states.
The only thing i did was sand out the full length bedding to float the barrel.

I posted up a schit load of pics about the project back then.
Float job
Fugg with polishing the trigger the 1st time back then
Recrown job , it shot horribly at 1st.
Refinish stock
Cooked metal in wheeler ceramacoat
But got it cerracoated eventually.

You was busting my chops about it all back then.

LOL!!!
