I have one I bought new in the 80’s it’s incredibly accurate with Remington subsonic ammo, no telling how many squirrels I’ve killed with that thing! Probably never sell it.

I have never used serial numbers to date the manufacture of any of my Remington firearms.
I use the "barrel date codes" on the barrels.
An online search will quickly find a date of manufacture code cypher for your Model 541-T.
I have the code in my "favorite places" and a hard copy of same that I take to gunshows and gunshops for info.

This thread has inspired me to shoot my 541THB tomorrow after I shoot some skeet. I pulled it out of the cabinet and it's still 99%. No stock dings, 100% blue, etc. I probably haven't shot this in almost 20 years. For now, I'm still keeping the Lyman target sights (90MJT rear and 20MJT front) on it. In the future I may scope it again. I put the target receiver sights on it when my son shot it inthe Boy Scouts. I cleaned the bore and ran some IOSSO paste in the chamber to remove any lead/carbon ring that may have been there. I have some Eley and Lapua ammo left over from my rimfire benchrest days. I'll see if it's still throwing the first couple of shots out of a cold barrel.

These rifles have been excellent overall.. I had forgotten that my son brought it to a local turkey shoot and competed in the .22 section... He won NINE turkeys that day....and the hosts were pizzed... That same day I won eight on the 12 ga section.. We brought home 17 turkeys that afternoon... Nearly hadda buy another freezer.. laugh laugh

If you have the opportunity to buy a nice 541T, THB heavy barrel, or S you will never be disappointed and most likely always get your money back out of it. By the way keep an eye out for the Lew Horton Maples they are sweet looking guns IMHO

Hopefully this weekend my 541S will get some dust knocked off it squirrel hunting. Season opened last week in Michigan and I just zeroed it with CCI SV.

lgs just had a 99% 541t on the shelf for over a month, asking 650. It was gone last weekend finally. I paid 650 a few years ago for my 541t tapered barrel.

I typically see online prices of 650 - 850 so when I found a two locally for quite a bit less than that I jumped. One is a heavy barrel with Brian Voelker's match upgrades and the other is an unmodified sporter barrel. Both shoot about the same and I prefer the sporter barrel version by a small margin. Typical 50 yard accuracy with preferred ammo:

They are very nice at their price point. Had a machinist pard lop the barrel at 20" with an 11-degree recessed target crown (balances much better) and I also bedded the action and did a little stock/metal work to get a Timney trigger nicely settled. +1 on John's SS mags. She's a peach!

JGray: Man that 10 shot 50 yard group from your 541 is just beautiful!
Good for you and for the Big Green of old.
