I still have my remaining ration coupons! I actually have a red meat token in my stash somewhere. I was in with some of my baby things.

My parents were born before the depression (dad 10 years prior, 1919).
Everyone of my grandparents were born in the 19th century, and I'm an X generation guy.

I still have my remaining ration coupons! They may have expired. I was born in 1937 and starting to feel a little old.

Born in 37 and remember going to get clothes that the women made to give out.
My dad worked WPA but could only work a few days a month because there were so many men needing work.
I remember the announcement about the japs attacking Pearl Harbor.
I Remember eating a banana after the war was over. Most of us had never had one.
Also remember the first bubble gum that was for sale in our small town . It was sold out before most of us could get there. Some shared so all could taste it .
Another big memory was VJ day. Japs surrendered . A big celebration to be sure .

Folks born in '29 and '32 Raised it or grew it or didn't eat Hauled water or drew it up or did without Nobody had electricity Hoed cotton until time to meet the school bus Get off the school bus and hoe cotton until dark Never blamed anyone for their lot in life. Managed somehow to work hard and pay for houses and cars and raise 3 kids without the gubmint having to step in and feed and clothe the kids and provide free housing and utilities
Parents siblings have identical stories. Wonder why that can't be done anymore?

Supposedly the median US income in 1950 was about $3000, and the median home value was $7400. Different world.

I only know about around here, I can't say anything about say Texas. During the '60s the guys who were 10 years older than me had it pretty good when it came to jobs. When it came to work ,they were the lucky generation.. Quit one and find another the next day. Good jobs too. Lots of overtime. Mortgage paying off money. By the '80s those days were well over.

1948 here......remember sitting on Dad's shoulders when the boys came home from Korea....Dad and most of my Mom's brothers all were in WWII.....got some stories but not enough..... Remember growing up in the 50's and early 60's as free as a bird.....no racial problems....remember watching tv when Eisenhower was elected.....tv had 3 channels.....itty bitty screen but could watch cartoons on Saturday. Kids today will never know the life we had.....so sad......glad I'm getting old....would not want to raise a kid today......and I fear for my grandson.
