My best friend scored this old Marantz 2225 for me in the Dallas area. I've been wanting a vintage Marantz for several years. My cousin gave me an Marantz SR 2-4000 cant remember the exact number. It was not a desirable pre '80 but it had the WPC bumped up and would really pump out the music. Lightning took it out.

This is factory rated at 25 WPC but puts out closer to 33. I had a 150 WPC Denon I replaced tis with and it is as loud or louder than the Denon.

Dig my high tech Redneck stereo cooling sysrem !

Now I need to get some worthy speakers.

Marantz 2270 (with the wood cabinet) and JBL 4310 Control Monitors here. Sound as good today as they did in the early 1970’s.

The 2270 is a beast. The wood cabinet is nice. pretty pricey to try and buy one.

The best speaker I have is a JBL. Some type of mid-range I got with a pair of yamaha larger book shelf speakers.

Do you still have it? They can be rebuilt.

I hate the 4 Channels didn't catch on.

I had one back in the early 70's and it was fun to sit in the middle of a room and let the music spin around you.

The speakers could blow out a match from a foot away

those were the days. never could afford a marantz but i got a nice 100 WPC technics setup when i was stationed in korea in 84. i had bose 901's for a while but they were not all they were cracked up to be. i sold them and bought some mid size klipsch speakers. that combo on half volume will scramble your brain. but its stacked on a shelf downstairs. i haven't listened to it in decades.

Nice receiver - do you have easy access (antenna or cable) to FM radio? Not familiar with that model - aside from phono and aux, what are the other available inputs? Will you be driving horns, or acoustic suspension, or ??

I have a 2238B, paired with an old pair of re-foamed Snells, which sounds fantastic. I'm on the lookout for a 2285B, but I'm afraid they're way overpriced at this point - I've seen them for as high as $2,500.00, but most tend to sell in the $1K range.

These old Marantz receivers from the 70s are hard to beat once they've been recapped and fully serviced.

I see your Q102 sign. Remember the Zoo?

I had a customer the other day show me pics of all his McIntosh amps and vintage Klipsch stuff that got burned up in the Camp Fire a few years ago.

He was nearly in tears.

Marantz stuff was nice and I remember my buddies dad had one just like your pic he never wanted us kids touching, but man it sounded good.

Screw you! I'm voting for Trump again!

I remember ogling the McIntosh equipment at their flagship store on Front St. in Binghamton, NY in the early 1970’s.

Dick’s flagship store was also located less than a mile away down Front St. and always stopped in to check out the used guns.

A lifetime ago..

I had one of those in the late 70's. Absolutely loved that stereo. I paired it with a Sansui direct drive turntable and a Onkyo reel to reel. Rounded it out with a pair of Pioneer speakers.

That stereo definitely rocked the dorm until my mother accidentally killed it. My brother and I had the typical dorm room shelving of cinder blocks and pine planks. My mom tried to revive a plant of my brothers on his side of the desk. No tray under the pot and the water ran down the shelf to just above the receiver and poured right in. Only horrible noise sparks and smoke. I do miss it.

Used a Thorens TD 125 AB MK11 turntable and Shure V15 Type 111 stylus with the system.
State of the art (that I could afford) at the time.

1911a1: I would recommend Klipsch horn speakers, such as the Heresy III from their Heritage line. The Klipsch horn design is incredibly sensitive and does not require high wattage at all, in fact, they excel with low wattage amplifiers, whether tube or solid state. The Heritage line from Klipsch is an all together different animal than other speakers offered by Klipsch.

Of course, I'd recommend auditioning several brands and types of speakers and go with what sounds best to you. What's your speaker budget?

I'm piecing together another system which consists of Klipsch Heresy IIIs, a McIntosh MC250 & a McIntosh C45. I'm almost there - just need to find a good C45 w the tuner upgrade and the RAA1 antenna for a decent price. I've heard such a system and it's absolutely sublime.

It got to where it would be playing radio, then the sound would go almost to mute or silent.

Take a screw driver handle and thump the end cap of the silver knob and it would jar it back to life. Got to where that Fonzi trick wouldn’t work any more.
