I hope you get it and have tons of fun and wonderful views/vistas from it.
I knew an older fella here in SW Montana who bought one specifically for finding and then GPS locating Moose and Elk antlers from the air for later retrieval.
He paid his mini-air-machine off and had a LOT of fun doing so.
I also had seen him "scouting" for Elk with his "air machine" on several occasions.
I am NOT sure one way or the other if THAT is legal but his Hunting success was rather high.
Alas he did die while Hunting afoot, for Wolves, and was found the next day dead in the snow - I am assuming he died doing what he loved to do.
Again best of luck and enjoyment if you decide to buy that cool "air machine".

I dreamed of having an ultralight for most of my life. The space needed to store one made it hard to justify. A friend of mine introduced me to PPC's (powered parachutes) a while back. I always knew about them but thought 28mph was too slow. It's not if you're just up looking around and not traveling to a destination.
Anyway, I bought a used one for $4k, watched a couple youtube videos and took off. Now I have two of them, one in storage and one in my shop getting a tune-up.
I should maybe take it out for a rip tonight.

Bird strike in the piehole would suck.

For most of my 76 years the cost of owning and becoming certified to fly a light aircraft always seemed to stay just beyond my reach, financially. I became resigned to the idea that radio control airplanes might be as close as I'd ever get to actually flying.... until rather recently, when a home-built ultralight presented itself to me. The price was right because it requires a few repairs to become airworthy once more. looking forward to flying it.

My father in law was amped up to buy a challenger ultralight. Looks like phone booth with wings.

The guy selling it to him crashed it week a before ‘testing it out to work out a few bugs’


Guy got pretty banged up. He was also our Directv card hacker guy that got us all free porn channels. Was a pretty rough go for a while.... with directv scrambling and frying cards every couple weeks and him in the hospital.

I wanted to go for a ride in one on Kauai but the pilot crashed and killed him and the passenger, the day before I was scheduled to fly. Kinda lost the need to fly in one after that. The Ultralight pilot that crashed was very experienced.

Must be something about flying on Kauai. Wife and I took a chopper tour there awhile back. When we got home news reported that company lost a chopper and all aboard. We were thinking, this is safe.
Wife bought me one of those "Fly with the fighter pilots" experiences years ago. Never been so nauseous in my life. About a week later they augered one into the ground.

pal, just between the two of us, surely you are joking? I recognize them tires on that "plane", using the word merely to describe a contraption loosely resempling the general appearance of one, as being recently stolen from my kids little red waggon, I was asked to fix.

I have enough aluminum in the shop to build a hummelbird. Should have picked up an old sonerai, gave the airframe a good inspection, reskinned it and had it up. They've been around 50 years and have a good reputation. Matter of fact, they are selling new plans again.

Funny. I had just finished repacking my rig from the first day’s jump and was getting checks when the 182 was taxiing to the load area. It sputtered and died about 50ft away. He ran out of fuel.

Back on point: That UL may have a chute, but what altitude does it need to deploy enough drag to live?

I see on the EAA's Spirit of Flight seminars next week one called "getting started in ultralights". Might be worth attending. I don't think you need to be an EAA member.

Some other interesting presentations include The U-2 and the Cold War given by Francis Gary Powers jr. and a deep dive on Apollo 13 given by NASA's chief historian Bill Barry. Even if you don't fly and just love the history and warbirds EAA is a great organization.

Indeed. And their fly-in at Oshkosh is incredible.

We flew an EA-6B in there in 95 for the show but next year I'm flying an Archer in and camping. Looking forward to it and with this years being cancelled it should be huge.
