I bought one of those on-line years ago w/o seeing the pics. I sold it fast w/o even firing it. Just knew I wasn't going to be able to like that set up ever.

There's lots you can do with them. Had this one done with all the bells and whistles as well as a steel hinged bottom.

Score!

I wouldn't touch it for a re-chamber.

$375?

You should be ashamed of yourself.

I have a Dayton Traister trigger that you can have cheap. Might take a bit of fitting to the cocking piece for the safety to work properly, might not.

Oh I’m feeling guilty, for sure.

Bought my Model 50 off gunbroker, was in a Tupperware stock, but had a Timney trigger and 4x Leupold on it. $325.

Posted a WTB on here and ended with a 51 stock for $100. So $425 all in, and it’s really accurate with multiple loads. Was going to rebarrel to 6.5x55, but probably keep as is.

The Model 50 in 30/06 was my first centerfire rifle. Bought it used in 1966-67. Like new condition...$50 with a 4X scope.. Killed my first whitetail with it. A beautiful 8 point. Like so many guns that I have bought and then sold, I wish I had kept it.

I wouldn't bother with a rebore either. You want bigger, go to 200-220 grain bullets if they won't shoot well enough to satisfy you then rebarrel it. The original High Standard barrels are quite good. MB

I have 2 M50s.

The 2nd one will be getting a 9.3x57 bbl this winter with a few bells and whistles. Kind of a euro 358Winchester with a bit more class.

If anyone has a nice clean M50 or M51 take off stock, I'd be interested.

Did you build that beautiful 7x57 off a donor JC Higgins action?

I thought so. Beautiful rifle. This is my 5th JC Higgins. The stupid part of my brain has entertained the thought of replacing the safety with a Model 70 type, Timney trigger, and have Bruce Farman build me a stock for it. Have Ed Lapour turn the barrel a bit to remove the sights. I’ll have to see how it shoots first. Bruce Farman is my Mama’s cousin. Guild guy. Builds incredible stocks.

I was just thinking of doing the same thing to mine this morning. Great minds. Might need a rebarrel though to do it..

These do fine with a 9,3X62 re-bore. I had one done a few years ago. They have as much meat as the Husqvarnas done on the 98 actions, and I've had one bored to 9.3X62 and have an original 9.3X62. The contour is the same for the 270, '06, 8 Mauser, and 9.3, and it's real similar in thickness to the 50/51s.

You need at least one rifle like that. I don't regret the one I had done.

I picked up a pre-fit 9.3x62 bbl that will be cut short on the chamber and done in 9.3x57. A generous soul here has offered to lend me his once used 9.3x57 reamer for the project.

I'm thinkin' something like this with a 20" bbl.

That'll be a sweet one. I have a Husqvarna 46 in 9.3x57. A joy to carry and shoot. I've yet to take any game with it but it's reputation is solid. I have a bunch of 286 grain RN Norma bullets loaded up for mine.

Yep, that’s nice. I turned a Standard Model 70 into a Featherweight using original parts and really like the end results. But FN 98’s are probably my favorite when done right. I’ll ponder it some, no hurry. Like you posted, it’s best to take your time and gather the parts as they come along.

Just curious as to why the X57?
