Has anyone installed a tang sight on a Ruger Number 1. How did you do it. Extend tang?

I have a stock from a Browning 1885 that had a very nicely inlaid tang sight that was epoxied and screwed to the wood. I would not have bought except the price was good and I had a custom stock that would fit it.

I was worried about how it would hold up in the long run and if bumped with the sight extended it might tear it out of the wood. The area where it was is right over the mounting bolt of course so wood is pretty thin there. The Ruger application would be similar if you went that way. I shot the gun quite a bit and it held its accuracy very well but I was too worried about tearing it out of the wood to enjoy it.

I have seen Renner's ad for their Ruger No. 1 tang sight that is attached to the area where the safety is.

I wanted one these sights from RJ for my No. 1 in 450/400 NE back in 2016 and he told me then the guy that was making them for him was no longer doing any production work. And further, RJ himself was not in the "sight making business". I ended up with a Skinner aperture sight (without an insert) that mounted on the rib and with the addition of a slightly bigger white bead in the front was totally satisfied. Plus I didn't have to worry about my hand on the pistol grip getting chewed up by recoil.

All that said, if someone finds one or if production has begun again, please let me know!

Thanks, Terry

Useful hunting sights are oneof them things that are difficult to source. Its too bad that there's that many of the current sight companies also are making their sights out of pot metal and not real steel either.

Maybe there's a way to adapt something like the Knights Armament sight
