I rarely post on this sub forum. How would you knife folks replace a handle on a kitchen knife?

Good afternoon sir, I hope the day's a good one for you all and this finds you well.

While I'm just on the fly in between, I'd think that if you're able to post a photo of said knife or perhaps a link to a similarly handled one we could have a better idea of what we'd be advising on.

Thanks in advance sir, I'll check in later and all the best until then.

Find a broke hammer handle in the barn/shop. Cut it to length, the rip it in half. Sand the tang side of the scales to true then up. Those are your scales. Use a rasp or saw to file/cut to slightly oversized. Mark holes in the handle through the tang on the inside of one scale. Drill out to the size of pin material you have. Line up the holes by putting pins in, and a Dab of super glue to hold that side on the tang. Pull pins out, dab of super glue and put the other scale on. Drill through from the already drilled side. Pop off the scales, mix up 2 part epoxy and apply to tang, put both scales on and put pins in. Use a clamp or vise to hold scales tight to tang. Wipe off the excess and upset your pins. Let the epoxy cure, then finish shaping, smoothing the handle. Apply several coats of BLO, and buff with paste wax.

Voila

Good afternoon to you sir, I hope you're staying cool enough in your part of the world and this finds you and yours well.

If I could ask one thing of Rick for our cyber 'Fire, it'd be a "like" or a "thumbs up" or even a "sure 'nough that's how I'da done it too" you know?

Anyway sir, sure enough that's how we'd do it up here just a tad north and west of your shop. grin

All the best to you folks as we sweat through the hot days.

Dwayne

Make sure to finish the front of the scales before you glue them into the blade. Doing so afterwards is not fun.

A thumbs up option on here would be handy, I'd use the hell out of it myself many times.

I shied away from wood at the first, but as I fiddle around I do find it to be neat to work with.

I am looking forward to the end of summer without a doubt, my least favorite season haha. Can't complain too loudly here, at least not yet. Though I do anyway. Be nice if it never got above 70.

Regards to you as well neighbor.
