I haven't shipped a rifle in a long time. Just got back from the Post Office and it cost me $106.00 to ship a Colt 6920 to North Carolina with $1,200.00 insurance. Priority shipping was $89.99! I even cut the box down as much as I dared to 35" long x15" wide x 8" deep.
Won't be doing that again! Fuggin highway robbery! I did the same thing a while back and next time I'll take some vaseline with me to the Post Office so it won't hurt so bad.

They eat your shorts on insurance and over-size charges Yep, if the package exceeds a certain size in cubic inches prices go up drastically. Prices vary due to type of account, commercial or other, area of destination - rural vs. urban, business vs. private residence, all kinds of things. For a private individual shipping a rifle the smaller you can get the package the better and even then prices have gone way up. When you look at prices for corporate accounts you have to wonder. I returned a 50 pound package some 7 feet long by 12 inches per side and it was $18 via UPS back to the factory on their account. Regarding breaking laws, don't eff with the Federal government or its subsidiaries. But just remember that next day or 2nd day for handguns is only UPS and FedEx policy, and that's all I'm gonna say about that...
Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery. Hit the target, all else is twaddle!

i find the next day/second day rule kind of a comfort. the longer a firearm is floating around out there the odds of it getting "lost in transit" go up

Recently needed to ship a rifle. USPS wanted 111$ for 2500 insured and shipped. My FFl shipped for me for 70$ with 2700$ insurance on it. He said he charged me 10$ for the hassle.
He must get one heck of a better rate. I have only ever shipped them to a Smith in the past and don’t remember it being anywhere near 111$

On a positive note, the dude behind the counter didn't give me any grief about shipping it. Probably felt bad for me by the shocked look on my face...lol

Won't be doing that again! Fuggin highway robbery! Next time maybe disassemble it down to two smaller shipments.

I shipped a Ruger Hawkeye from New Jersey to Fairbanks, Alaska 2 day priority for $63.40 insured for $800. UPS wanted $106 and take 10 days to get there! Federal Express is outrages with their prices.

You'll be GD lucky if it gets there in under a month.
Guy sent me a m/o regular mail, took 3 weeks to get here.
Mailed a barrel in their priority mail triangle box to Tx, going on three weeks now, and still "in transit".
Took 6 days to send a package 150 miles away a week ago, that has always been a 2 day trip in the past.
Mailed a barrel to Colorado, no sign of life for the last week & a half on that one.
Mailed a Manners to just south of the Twin Cities, 250 miles away. Took 8 days, again normally a 2 day ride.
It ain't gonna get any better.......

I ship through these guys, a division of Bud's Guns. Simple, quick and the least expensive in my experience (including insurance). https://www.shipmygun.com/go/

It's not the shipping that is expensive it's the insurance.

I have a rifle floating around out there now in the USPS system. Shipped it Priority with tracking and $800 insurance. It’s going to the next State over....it’s been 12 days as of today. I filed an inquiry today to see where exactly it is...my guess is it’s folded in half in a corner of Detroit’s P.O. Glad I sprung for the insurance on this one...

Did you ship via a contract station.... those places can charge up to 300% of actual shipping costs most of that going in their pocket....I never use them and go directly to the outift...UPS etc...not a UPS Contract location.

Wow, that seems very high. I shipped a small rifle, about 7 pounds about 900 miles, and no insurance. I think it was $35.
I’ve shipped dozens, all in conusa. Can’t recall one over $50. I go usps. X2
