Biggest I've seen were all barr's ( castrated boars ). Seen some sows and boars that were really large but barr's have been by far the biggest.

Never killed one that had been castrated. Slg’s wasn’t castrated either. But I would imagine that would make for some big pigs in the presence of enough feed.
Funny thing is about 3 weeks ago was suturing you a young girl. Her dad is a federal wildlife trapper. Works at airport and on the national park wild hog control
I always assumed most populations of wild hogs were natural movement. He said they are tracking dna and are finding areas where they can prove without a doubt they were intentionally moved by people. They have archived this genetic data and are tracking this. I always thought it was mostly BS until I spoke with him

We had a bunch get started a few miles from here. Supposedly, a game ranch got a load of hogs from the South that didn't have the right paperwork, and the refused them. The truck driver pulled over in the widespot on top the ridge and left them out.
Was a big deal for awhile, lots of pigs and people hunting them. PGC got involved and eventually (I think) wiped them out.

We shoot a lot of pigs here along the Guadalupe River. Just about all of them are black, tall in the shoulder and little hind quarters. A lot of 100 to 150lb. Not many go over 200lbs.

Russ,
That was down at Algar in around 2005 or 6.

That is indeed cool. Every dead pig is a good pig.
I was working the other day and ran up on herd in thick, chest-high brush at a distance of about 10 yards. I was on foot in the mud, trying to get back to my ATV. I heard them grunting, and could smell them, but couldn't lay eyes on them. A loud "GIT!!" ran them off, except the boar, who circled around and eyeballed me at 50 yards. I should have worn a waistpack with my 10mm that day, instead of just the .380 in my pocket. Some landowners can be iffy about seeing a handgun on your belt.
Now with even more aplomb

I’m not a biologist and don’t know they how’s and whys. But I saw a documentary years ago about how foxes will basically start turning into dogs within a few generations in captivity, exhibiting different colors and traits that don’t occur in the wild. Also, I saw a documentary on how Russian fur farm wid animals in a few years of captivity will start having white fur. A mark of becoming more civilized.

This little piggy was caught out too late one early morning was and busted with a .308 shot to the spine. The land owner estimated the weight between 550 and 600 pounds as his scales were broken. He told me it had been on his property 6 years and her twin was still there. I raised hogs in Vocational Ag in high school and saw some 500 pound show boars - my big red sow looked bigger. My biggest hog so far. We have hunted this hilly and wooded property for 10+ years with dogs and still hunting and had never seen this hog. Owner told me that the dogs chase only boars! I have seen similar sized hogs shot in the Oklahoma Red River breaks just north of Burkburnet, TX and they took pictures of all that weighed more than 400 pounds. There were pix of several 500 to 600 pounders on the lodge wall. That property is on the north bank in OK and some hogs were actually shot in the river bottom. I have also seen pix of totally wild Russian boar that weighed over 1000 pounds. They are smart tough critters and grow fast and big if conditions allow.
