A plane old 1st year .25-06 Remington BDL.
Back then people asked what the hell is a .25-06. Even though it was a wildcat for decades.
Gun Shows are almost as comical as boat ramps in the Spring.

The Kimber Montana with the 84L action in 25-06 is a sweet shooting, easy to carry rifle that performs well on everything up to big mulies. Hard to do better for hunting in the western mountains where the hills are steep, the air is thin, and the shots are long. Works great on the open plans for antelope, too. The 25-06 is an outstanding cartridge. Not sure why, but it doesn't get nearly as much love as it deserves. With Barnes Vortex TTSX 100gn factory ammo With Federal Nosler Partion 115gn factory ammo:

The one I had was a Cooper Excalibur and it was extremely accurate, although a little heavy.

Kimber 25-06 with a 3x9 Leupold has worked well for me for years. Easily my most accurate Kimber.
Yup.

Favorite of my own is an early 90's SS 700 mountain rifle in a Ti takeoff. Favorite overall is a friend's Barrett Fieldcraft. I prefer them to a M70 XTR "WinLight" I also currently own and an SPS SS in a Ti Takeoff I've since sold.

With Barnes Vortex TTSX 100gn factory ammo With Federal Nosler Partion 115gn factory ammo: Kimbers fit me perfectly. I have several, but have looked for a long time for a Montana in 25-06 with no luck. I’m strongly considering having my Mountain Ascent in 270 rebarreled to 25-06 as Kimber is no longer making them in 25-06 and the Mountain Ascent sits in the safe. Currently have a very early model Forbes in 25-06 that shoots lights out, which I’ll likely sell to build the Kimber, or trade for a proven shooter Montana. If anyone knows of someone who would consider selling or trading a proven shooter Montana, please let me know. Craig

I have a .25-06 X-Bolt Stainless Stalker. No complaints at all with the gun, and I like it much better than my previous 25-06 (Rem 700 SPS Buckmasters). The Browning is more accurate, better trigger, smoother feeding, better balanced, and just an all around better gun. For the money it’s a great rifle for deer, antelope, hogs, etc.

Marlin XL7 that I bought on this site for $280 back in April 2012.
It might be the rifle with the most accuracy per dollar spent of any that I've owned.
I have loaned it a few time and had trouble getting it back a time of two because the person to whom I loaned it got attached to it.
The 25-06 is all that the 257AI strives to be, but does it in a factory standard chambering and with, usually, easier to find and less expensive factory ammo. But it lacks the "cool" factor of the 257 Roberts, 257AI, and 25-284.

I agree with this completely. But I still love my “Bobs” and “Better Bob” 😊

I have a "Better Bob" but think I would have been just as happy with a .25-06. The only reason I didn't do the .25-06 was because my 6mm-06 is all .25-06 brass and wouldn't take much to have a screw up.

Kimber here That is a true gun nut that installs a floor to match his rifle.

Currently have two. One is the first genuine built in 'Merica hunting rifle I ever bought, a used late '80's-early '90's blued steel and walnut 77 with a vari-x III 3.5-10. It was the princely sum of $350, and stays around these days mostly for sentimental reasons. The other, a Zastava 98, will be turned into a 7x57 as soon as the barrel is cooked. That one cost MUCH less than $350.

I have two, Remington 700 CDL and Weatherby Vanguard S2. They both shoot Barnes very well. They are for predator calling as of now so I just shoot the 80grn TTSX (lead free CA). The Weatherby likes them with Reloaer 17 and the CDL will shoot them with both Varget and H4831sc. Both the rifles will shoot half in with the loads. They both also seem to like 115grn Nosler ballistic tips with Reloader 22 and H4831. I love the 25-06, I think it gets nowhere near the attention it deserves.

Kimber here That is a true gun nut that installs a floor to match his rifle. Haha. I got lucky with this Kimber. It shoots tsx 100 grain bullets an inch and a half lower than ttsx bullets the same weight so I have a choice of shooting a 100 yd zero with tsx bullets and the same sight-in gives me a 200+ yard zero with ttsx bullets.

Mine's a Savage 16 with accu-stock. Was a .30/06. Screwed on a Pac-nor 1:9 24" barrel and added a decelerator pad for a longer LOP. Shoots tiny groups with 100gr Nosler solid base bullets, 1 1/4" and smaller groups with everything else. Light to carry and balances well with the longer barrel.
