Checked the Fury website. He makes “the bullets you want but can’t buy”….

That’s a neat company logo, and seems to be the case. He does have some interesting offerings. Thanks for your input, Dinny.

May have to try some.

A Barnes Bullet engineer suggested one of their 180 grain bullets for my .358 Win when I asked about lower impact velocity at longer .358 Win ranges.

They're brutally efficient.

I was thinking about picking some of those up and trying them. I think it would be very possible to push those over 2800fps

The 180 TTSX in 358 win. flat out works, and when you stuff that in a 358 Norma oh my up one level of target punishment. Seen three pigs at a feeder at 50 yards get dispatched with one pull on 358 norma, last pig got smucked in head with about 2/3 the bullet. ribs #1, high neck and thru on second, third did not get head out of the way ( 75 - 125 pound pigs)

Wow that is some impressive penetration! I tried to score some on gunbroker a while back for a good deal but lost the bid last minute darn it. Maybe I’ll just have to “bite the bullet” and pay full price for some 😂

Simply want to know what goes? I killed a spike buck at close to 300 yards with a bulk 35 cal PSP from Midway about 12 years ago with a 358 winchester out of a Savage 99. RZ.

Was that PSP one of the Winchester bulk bullets or the Privi PSP ? I have shot a ton of the Privi bullets as have my sons and have found them to perform as well as most of the premium bullets at a much better price .

Those 225 SGKs are tougher than people think. I haven’t taken an animal with one yet but plan to. I was doing some reduced load testing with them into water jugs recently and they barely had any expansion at around 1950 fps. Plan on doing some more testing but I don’t think I would run these into an animal at anything less than 2100fps. They’re tough! I had high hopes that the BC of that bullet would get me out to about 300-350 yards for hunting but after seeing those results, I quickly realized that 250 yards would be my max hunting distance with that bullet.

Don’t need anything fancy in a 358 or whelen, 225 sierras are perfect

I agree. Nice blacktail by the way. I just went back and read through this whole thread again. Dandy blacktail you got!

Only bullet I’ve shot in my Whelen. Don’t have to worry about tracking them. Bullet hits deer, deer hits ground.

I wouldn't hesitate to use any 358 on an elk. I got some SGK this winter and loaded them up in my 358 and they shot very good but didn't get to shoot anything. I did shoot a heavy Axis with a 200 gr Hornaday RN it worked but i made a bad shot. I shot a little back. The deer went about ten yards and laid down. I recovered a flattened jacket and no lead. I would still use them but I would make a better shot.

358s were made for 225s and up.

If you're going to shoot 180s you might as well shoot a 308.

Can't disagree a bit with that. I shoot the same load from my 7600 carbine and my 7600 rifle in 35 Whelen. 225 Sierra's around 2700.. Complete pain train on deer.

When I got my first .35 Whelen my four rifles in .358 Win. kind of got left behind so the only thing killed with them has been paper. The .358s are two Ruger M77Rs tangers, a an early Browning BLR and a Savage M99. Interesting thing is the Ruger's gave a 1 in 16" twist barrel and the BLR and M99 have 1 in 12" barrel. Neither Ruger's group worth a damn but the BLT is quite close to MOA and the Savage has shot MOA every time I had it out. What little reloading workI've done with them has been with 250 gr. bullets.

The Whelens came along and I just set the others aside. I tried working with the 150 gr, bullet and while they shot decent groups I just wasn't all that happy with the loads. Then, I drew a tag for the Kaibab Nat'l. Forest and it was requested that I use ll copper bullets. It wasn't mandatory but just a request. As my wife also drew a tag and the state was giving free TSX bullets, so what the hell. I was able to obtain two boxes, one for each license. I didn't expect much luck as I had failures in three 7x57 rifle, two .257 Roberts so wasn't expecting anything as results. I worked up the 225 gr. YSX to 2710 FPS and no group has been larger than .75" with most .50" or less. About all I can add is I've done six elk hunts with that rifle and so far six one shot kills. The shortest was about 75 yards and the longest 350 yards as laser measured by my guide. I have never recovered one of the bullets.

There was a seventh hunt but that elk was taken with a 30-06 running the 165 gr. Nosler Accubond. I used it because when checking the sights on the Whelen the reticle just disappeared. I was a little leery about a bullet that light on elk but it did the job, one shot and down and out.

The beauty of the 358 is that there’s little need for premium bullets. My choice - 250 grain Interlocks. I’d be looking at TAC for a powder.

I prefer classic.
