The more I play with these two bows the more I learn and the more I notice. Just noticed today that the shelf on my 57# recurve is at an acute (less than 90 deg) angle to the strike plate, as if to keep the arrow from rolling off. The 47# is off being repaired so I cannot compare the two.
Seems that as the arrow flexes upon release and begins to move forward, the arrow will also begin to climb up the "ramp" formed by the shelf.
I'm sure there is a lot of variation in bows. But is an acute angle "normal"?

I would think the nock point being up would not allow for contact/ climb.....it should ass high to start with.
Have seen carbons need a little higher nock point than alum, and a bow quiver can influence that as well
Arrow should contact shelf and sideplate at points of tangent.
Rest material of loft will place the arrow higher and allow for some cushion, and clearance ( when gapped as discussed before )
Thats my take on it. Could be full of chit But i like small radiused shelfs and use velcro and try for minimal contact.

As you draw the arrow should pull into the riser ( string rotation/ fingers if of influence ). The less than 90 degree shelf/ riser angle may help with that.
But my guess is that its more for quill clearance.
I get the cradle effect and clearance w my velcro gapped. Am pretty much against thinner materials.
Had a bud w a new bow ( custom ) and he had probs us9ng the thin no loft riser/ shelf stuff
Took forever for him the change ( change did improve things ).
I dunno, but I like things kinda easy and forgiving. Aint trying to reinvent the wheel, just put arrows through deer.

I run a tab and like the kp300 w spacer fine. It bugs the hell out of some people. Others like the metal body adjustable tabs. I can run a spacer split tab or a non spacer BW split tab. But also like a 3 under BW tab. All calf hair.
Started w a glove as a kid. Went to tab in 85 and never looked back.
Lots of people like gloves. Several of my buds run em. They also have lesser quality arrow flight......maybe part of the reason, maybe not.
Who shoots a glove in the Olympics?

I basically thing th earrow is too stiff. Can't fix that for now (no arrows around to cut longer and no heavier points). So, I moved the nock up to 5/8" from 1/2", moved the leather shelf in closer to the side plate, and started shooting cock feather in. Whatever it was I fixed.
