Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley speaks during a press conference on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at the Flint Police Department in Flint, Michigan. In an effort to keep illegal firearms off the street, the City of Flint, Michigan, has announced it will start destroying guns seized by police rather than selling them at auction. "You have to ask yourself, 'How much is a life worth?' " Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley said during a news conference last week. "From this day forward, we will destroy weapons we collect." Neeley said the city will immediately hand over 250 guns to the Michigan State Police to be melted down. The city started auctioning off seized firearms to the highest bidder in 2017, according to a news release. In 2019, the city auctioned off 1,273 guns, funneling upwards of $200,000 back into the police department. "That revenue to me, is just not good revenue," Neeley said. "It shows a gross lack of critical thinking when we say we want to fight crime and take weapons off the street to be in the chain of circulating weapons back into activity where bad guys may have a second chance of doing something wrong." In July, Flint Police Chief Phil Hart announced the city will be implementing a special investigative unit designed to bring illegal guns off the street.

Lorcins, Jennings and KelTecs may soon become collectibles?
If three or more people think you're a dimwit, chances are at least one of them is right.

Most Police Departments do that nowadays. Because most of them have a Libertard DemoRat POS for a Chief. Been happening for the last 20 years or so. Departments used to use the money from selling them to buy new gear for their swat teams or bullet proof vests for their officers. Those days are long GONE.

From the city too stupid to add buffering agents to their drinking water supply resulting in lead poisoning the entire population! There’s a pun here somewhere.

Have you heard? They're disposing of the ammo too. It all goes into the reservoir along with the special fluoride treatment.

The city of Newark, NJ had a big gun buy back program years back and the local rag covered it quite extensively. On the cover one day was a picture of a big pile of guns turned in, right on top was a Browning A5. A very old black woman had turned it in for $200 payment. She said it was her late husbands rabbit hunting gun, the guy had good taste. The guns were destroyed, what a shame.

Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley speaks during a press conference on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at the Flint Police Department in Flint, Michigan. "It shows a gross lack of critical thinking when we say we want to fight crime and take weapons off the street to be in the chain of circulating weapons back into activity where bad guys may have a second chance of doing something wrong." A gross lack of critical thinking would be to accept Neeley's wholly unsupported argument that the legal sale of guns necessarily results in illegal gun ownership, i.e. guns on the street.

No big loss. There will be 10,000 Ruger LC9's destroyed. Ruger will produce 20,000 the next month.

I was on the operating floor of #1 BOF at US Steel in Gary when the county brought in about a pickup truck load of confiscated guns to be destroyed. They just added them into the scrap charge for the furnace. Kinda crazy to see.

And what will they pay when issues are found to be in error, and one can reclaim their property.
