I am looking for a light(er) pair of waterproof hunting boots ( no mucks or such) for bird season. We walk a lot and the terrain varies ( Western Ks). It can be 70* and sunny or -0 and snowy or somewhere in between.

On one hand I would like a shorter boot but then that limits the standing water I can walk though.

What say you?

Honestly, I might look into a hiking boot but then you have that standing water thing? How deep are you expecting? Calf height? If so, then you start limiting the choices of "light weight".

Good luck with your search.

I wear Crispi Wyomings with Kuiu gaiters. I can wade through water and stay dry. I wear two pairs of socks when temps drop below 30 in the snow. I hunt Sept into January through multiple states and terrain. I still wear mucks if hunting around wetlands for pheasant or jump shooting ducks.

You can find them under $200 if you search

Two things to never go cheap on or you will regret it. Tires and boots.

You decide what type fits you but I highly recommend the Crispi brand. I have owned nearly all the brands with a lot of miles underneath them.

Goretex will leak over time as the fabric fatigues and also get dirt in the goretex "pores".

Under 5 miles a day I stick with Mucks... over 5?

Not sure what i would do. Maybe Goretex with a super duper replacement warranty? Maybe?

I have no idea how far we walk but it is a bunch. I have mucks but they are not for walking 10 hrs a day over milo stalks and such.

If it is dry , I have my redwings. I have treated them with multiple items but It doesn’t work

Do you like your Redwings? Why not check and see if they have a waterproof liner version of them. Maybe not "Gore-Tex" as some companies have their own version.

I wore these when I was bird hunting a lot.

If they start to leak hose them down with Camp Dry.

When they disintegrate, buy a new pair.

Very light, plenty of stability, and waterproof enough.

The modern lightweight hiking boots are wonderful but basically disposable. Like a good running shoe constant use decreases their comfort over time, often before they look worn out. Prior to retirement I was on my feet about 40 hours/week and my feet took a beating. I treated myself to a new pair of Lowa Desert Zephyrs every year. Putting on the new boots was a noticeable improvement. Life is too short to wear heavy boots. Goretex works great in a wet weather/cold weather boot.

I've been wearing the Danner TFX boots for many years. Light, comfortable, goretex, and uninsulated. Last pair I bought has gone 9 years and still going. Still waterproof.

Sometimes, but my 25 year-old Danners are still waterproof. However, they squeak, and worse, no longer fit my old flat feet. Got new ones with 800g Thinsulate. US-made, and cozy down to the teens at least.

Follow the bird dogs with your truck. When they go on point, get out and shoot a couple birds and get back in the truck. Repeat as necessary.
