The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers finds under section 404 of the Clean Water Act that the project, as proposed, would likely result in significant degradation of the environment and would likely result in significant adverse effects on the aquatic system or human environment. This finding is based on factual determinations, evaluations, and tests required by subparts (b) and (g), and after consideration of subparts (c) through (f) and (h) of the 404 (b)(1) guidelines. This record is laid out in the environmental impact statement published on July 24, 2020. Therefore, the Corps finds that the project, as currently proposed, cannot be permitted under section 404 of the Clean Water Act. For more information, please contact Lt. Col. Tom Collier has $15 million reasons to lie, deceive, manipulate, and mislead the public to get this mine permitted. I trust nothing he says; he does not have Alaska’s interest at heart. Good for the corp (and DT JR!) - it will still be a long protracted battle.

From the start, Pebble has been subject to political whims, decisions, and opinions of federal agencies and bureaucrats who disagree with how Alaskans choose to live and work. Science, based on what if Maybe the federal government has a moral and economic obligation to compensate our state for stifling Alaska's job growth potential?

You are so obviously clueless about every aspect of the project it is impossible to find the starting point.

Therefore, the Corps finds that the project, as currently proposed, cannot be permitted under section 404 of the Clean Water Act. Let's hope that there's no proposal that could be conceived that would allow permitting. Up until a year or so ago, I was middle of the road, leaning toward development and at least letting the permitting process to run its course until a tailings dam let go in Brazil wrecking everything downstream. We've already had several schitty salmon seasons out here in Area M. Bristol Bay has helped see us through some of the worst of of it because their salmon runs have remained consistent and our processors get quite a bit of their fish. We can't take the chance on wrecking that too by creating a reservoir of toxins at the headwaters.

Look at little things not made public... building an enormous earthen dam on a 2,000' thick tundra sponge. Forcing US companies out by allowing foreign companies in with far lower bonding requirements. It is just a really bad place to do a project like this.
The bad stuff started happening with Frank the Bank's move to have the state use rules for marine environments so they could honestly state there are no walrus haul-outs at Pebble... and did not have to mention moose and caribou...

I read that COE also said the harm to salmon is not measurable. Pebble is spinning that to mean insignificant, and some people are dumb enough to not see that it means it can’t be measured until it happens.
So put a loaded gun to you head, pull the trigger and measure the effect
Great idea!

The CEO gets a $15 million bonus if this mine gets approved. Why anyone believes anything the man says with regard to environmental impact is beyond me.

Pebble CEO Tom Collier resigns after release of secretly recorded videos
Pebble Limited CEO Tom Collier has resigned following the release by an environmental group of secretly recorded videos of Collier and Ron Thiessen, president of Pebble parent company Northern Dynasty Minerals, discussing the company’s relationship with Alaska politicians and regulators.
A statement released by Northern Dynasty Minerals on Wednesday said Collier’s resignation has been accepted by Northern Dynasty’s senior management and board of directors.
Former Pebble Partnership CEO John Shively will be Pebble’s interim CEO while the company seeks a new leader, the statement said.
