I have a paint chip the size of a silver dollar on the roof of my 2003 F250 Super Duty. Other than this newly discover chip the paint is in very good condition.
What should I do to fix it?

If you want the repair to be as good as possible have one of the company’s that do car lot paint repair for the car dealers take care of it for you. If you just want to keep it from rusting, since it’s on the roof and pretty much out of sight, buy some matching touch up paint and clear coat and have a go at it. The spray touch up will give you a better job that the brush on types.

How big is it? Is it actually missing a chip of paint or is it more like a scratch? If it's a scratch, it might be just in the clearcoat and will buff out. I had some scratches that looked like chips. I got an inexpensive buffing pad to fit in a drill and some buffing compound. It took about 10 min to have them gone. You can't tell they were ever there.

You can order your trucks color in a spray can and a can of clear coat from various places. I had a similar issue on the tailgate of my truck and just taped it off after a light sanding. Used a light gray primer and the spray can of paint color matched to the paint code. When it had dried I clear coated it. Removed paint and after a week I buffed it out and it looks fine. On the roof I doubt you would ever notice it.

Then just spray it with some primer.

Shot a vermin few months back, trying to raid the dog food cache. Had some 4 shot 12 gauge richochet. Got the vermin. Good thing the back drop was that dmn ford Superduty. Them shotgun pock marks rusting quick. Primer wouldn't be a bad thing.
