Looking to put up a new shooting house. What has been the most affordable, yet effective designs you have experience with. Want something functional yet affordable. What say you?

Without your having posted what you consider affordable it is a hard question to answer. Depending on whether you are handy with carpentry you can build a basic one for under a $1000, at that price it would be small but servicable.

Take a look at some of the wood pre-built storage sheds - they come in every size and shape, most of them are quite well built. There seem to be a lot of them for sale in our area and a couple of thousand dollars will get you a pretty decent smaller one.

example - https://woodtex.com/sheds/original-storage-shed/

There are quite a few local builders in our area and they are generally less than this one is priced at - but considering that is a delivered price to a fairly remote area I though it was decent.

Google is your friend.

How many rooms?

Do you want right and left corner fed doors in addition to center fed doors?

Frangible ammo?

How many guys will live fire at one time?

Catwalk or CCTV?

Gonna be expensive. grin

Back when metal was cheap i made several out of square tube.

Framed the box with 1” tube and the base/ legs out of 1 1/2”.

Used the old Masonite siding.

Hardware store near the plant sold 2nds..

Back then prolly $300 in one.

LOL.

If you are talking hunting blinds you should say so.

Shooting House means something very different.

Do you go deer shooting or deer hunting?

He's not talking about four walls riddled with glory holes and a roof.

I never thought of a shooting house as something on stilts like pictured. I have never actually seen anything like those in use, to me a shooting house is a small shed type building with a shooting bench inside so that you can stay out of the weather when target shooting, I thought the were called hunting stands.

Guess I need to get out to other parts of the world where folks shoot game from inside a building, that's not the way we do it in this part of the country.

I was wondering what was a "shooting house", didn't want to ask and show my ignorance. You could get one of the prebuilt sheds you see for sale everywhere and fix it up the way you want it, some of them look pretty nice and should work just fine for you.

I could not call it "hunting" when you are shooting from inside a building either, but some folks think it's just fine. Guess that adds to the "diversity" of our country. wink

Yeah, a "shooting house" is what they in Alabama commonly call an enclosed box hunting stand or blind. It can be located at ground level or elevated. It can be rather spartan or quite elaborate in design, made from basic scrap materials or specifically manufactured.

It’s nice to have somewhere to sit when it’s cold and raining. I do not like to get wet. I’m a sissy, but I’m a warm, dry sissy.

Coolest I’ve seen, made in south LA.

Take 4 pieces of r-board insulation. Stick together.
Then spray with fiberglass.

Other than a tornado getting it, it’ll last for awhile.

Course, this like the window thread had turned unto a dick measuring great white hunter thread.

Everyone hunts differently. From one area of the country to another. Heck, even differently in the same areas.

I build them 4'X6 or 8' usually and depending on how much 'scrap' building materials I can pick up build for $50-100 out of pocket, excluding 6X6 and concrete if elevated.
