Anyone here using the Pioneer Trekker diesel heater? I bought one and I’ve been running it for the last couple days trying to get a feel for it.
I can’t seem to get a nice blue flame with it. It has a long yellow flames. The video I’ve watched on lighting it shows nice hot blue flames. All I can get are long lazy yellow. Seems to be burning too rich regardless of the draft changes. I’ve tried different height of the stack to increase the draft but it will be in a tent and I can only go so high with the stack. I’ve also adjusted the oil flow of the control valve as per the manufacturer’s procedure but still not getting a nice blue flame.
Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don’t know what a trekker is—but I have a $2500 Dickensen diesel heater that has the same problem.
I’m not recommending burning propane on a boat—but what are you gonna do?

I have been using one for 10 years or so. The blue flame is elusive. We run on high during the day , used in cook tent, when it is cold. When it is warmer get blue flame with lower settings sometimes. Run it on low setting at night to keep thing from freezing up. This used in a 12x15 tent. Our use in northern Mn. in November. Feel free to PM with any questions.

We also have a eco fan that we set on it. That really evens the heat out in the tent.

Thanks for the info. Do you find any difference depending how high above the stove the fuel tank is?
Also, how tall do you run the flue pipe? Thanks.

We have not noticed any difference on hight above stove, have gone from 1 to 2 feet above stove. We have used all the pipe that came with the stove. Used a shorter stack once with poor results.

Do you have your flue going straight up or through the side?

Do you use a manometer to measure the draft?

Straight up and no on the manometer.

Do you have to secure the flue with guy wires?

Yes, it comes with them.

It's 32 degrees F. I've got the Expedition heater cranked to the max with a stove fan going on my 14x16. Feels like it may be 60 degrees. This is it? I'm kind of disappointed. Though the even heat is great.

I'm just used to the blasting heat of a wood stove.

That sounds about right. My tent is 12x15 and the small trekker gets it to about 60 during the day at that temp and warmer in the evening with two gas lanterns going. I also have an army surplus multi fuel heater that can get the tent to 100+ but burns a bunch of fuel.
