The .356 and .358 Winchester cartridge are often compared as being similar, with the .358 being slightly better when it comes to case capacity and ability to handle higher pressure mainly because of the rifles chambered for it.

If a powder is a good performer in the .358 Winchester will it be a good performer in the .356 Winchester? For my .356 Winchester I have a bunch of WW 748 powder I plan on using with 220 grain Speer FN and 250 grain ABW FN bullets. But, I am open to trying other powders in order to boost velocities with either bullet weight.

I am all ears gents!

WW 748 is an excellent powder for the 356 Win. H335 is also a good powder. I use them both plus I use TAC. Also try the Speer 180gr FNSP. I use them in my 358's and 35 Rem.

Due to deeper bullet seating - I use a 2.550" COL, i find Winchester 748 to be just a bit more sensitive to 100% loads and a bit finicky with regard to lever kick on a hot day. Win 748 loads kill deer just fine. 49.0 grains is about all I can get under a 200 grain bullet and it gives 2,485 fps+ in my Winchesters.
I like Alliant Reloder 10x, 44.0 grains will get 2,490 fps with the 200 grain bullets and no other things to think about.
Reloder 10 will give both top velocity and accuracy. Experiment to see which crimp your bullets like best.

With the 220 grain Speer 39.0 grains of IMR 4198 is hard to beat day in day out. This load will top 2,360 fps easily and give good accuracy with a toungue of red flame. Hodgon 4198 will do the same.
50.0 grains of Hodgdon Varget is right beside it.
46.0 grains of Hodgdon 4895 will break 2,300 fps with good accuracy and no surprises on a hot day.

That will give you a few options to consider.

TAC is a top performer. IMR 3031 and 4895 have also worked well in my 358 rifles. Never had a 356.

Ramshot's TAC and X-Terminator have worked well for me in both. A guy at my range has the 356 in a Marlin told me the other day 748 has shot well in his but I haven't fired it in my Winchester. If it's what you got, give it a run.
